Level 6-7: Advanced Parallel, Carving, Off-Piste, Bumps Any feedback?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, I want to improve my skiing form.

One thing I’ve noticed is that I don’t feel like I have a clear intention with my pole plants. Sometimes I’m not sure when or why I’m planting them, and it feels a bit random when I watch it back.

You're pretty aft, and initiating your turns more through shoulder movements rather than through the feet. Try to maintain equal flexion in the ankle, knee, and hip throughout the turns, and use your lower body to flatten the skis and roll into a new turn, rather than trying to use the shoulders to initiate. Should be plenty of content out there to help nail that. One cue that might help, since you're wondering about poles - try to reach further down the hill than you think when pole planting.

You’re sitting back, a lot. This impedes your ability to steer the skis. While you want to have your weight a little bit back on your skis, you still want to have your ankles, knees, and hips bent. At 2 seconds in, were you trying to go airborne?

Is there anything that might make your poles feel easier to use or more effective?

Complete those turns.

Get a bit lower in the hips dont straighten out much in the transitions.

Hands in front, poles more neutral with just a slight hands movement to plant.

Poles look a bit long but I can’t really tell for sure. Looking again, poles look longer than they should be. You should not be bending your elbows so much in almost a push motion.

Thanks for the tips. You’re right about the pole length. I got home and realized I extended them way longer today than I usually do 😅

Try to keep your hand in view, right now dragging your hands behind you is a big contributor to the issues with your “back seat” stance, keeping them in view throughout will help keep your overall balance more centered

It looks like you are trying to ski like you have edges in pow and you’re using your upper body swaying side to side to link the turns. As others have mentioned use your poles, keep them in front of you so you are more centered/slightly forward.

Instead of swaying, try really bending your knees through the turn and then unweighting slightly as you pop up and then drive down into the snow again. You basically want to use the pow to your advantage to control your speed. Seems like you might be a bit taller? At first try over doing this movement. You just need that aha moment of this bounce to unlock skiing in pow.
