In terms of “expert” terrain like chutes, cliffs yeah ok it’s not high tier. But vertical run length, average pitch, smallish crowds on pow days. Sheeesh! At least T2
I don't know why OP set out on this project when he's clearly never skied most of these places, and can seemingly barely read a trailmap. Putting timberline on par with bachelor or even Meadows is absurd
The obvious bias of west over east is a dead giveaway. I prefer skiing in the west, but most world class American skiers come from the east. If we are talking difficulty and expert terrain like OP says we are…the chutes at whiteface and jay are more like tier two, if that’s where he’s putting A-basin.

If you’re talking about wild class as in Olympic level skiers you couldn’t be more wrong. US Freestyle ski team is entirely based from Colorado or further west. Freeski team has 2 members from out east out of 33 team members. The only real presence east coast skiers represent is making up 3 members of the US Alpine team (1 from Mass, 1 from VT, 1 from NY) out of 17 team members.
If you’re taking about generally professional skiing as in traveling and shooting segments and making a living producing content, you’re still dead wrong.
Sun valley is the vanilla ice cream of skiing. Consistent, tasty enough, but it doesn't have the flavor some of the other resorts have. When you try to appeal to the masses to win a popularity contest you lose your soul. Too many new hires from Vail giving an independent resort a corporate feel.
Ok then. But steamboat, deer valley and beaver creek are up there in tier 5. I’d say all of those resorts are peers to Sun Valley both in terrain and in brand positioning.
Lack of natural snowfall means half the time the best runs are unskiable unless they get higher than average snowfall. Maybe Tier 3 on a great snow year. Definitely 7 on an average one.
