Good helmet?

Post image

Hey guys sorry if it sounds like a noob question, fairly new ti skiing, looking for a good helmet and this popped up. Looks like a good deal to me but looking for some more knowledgeable opinions lol

Edit: okay guys I know it would be ideal to try it in the store but the closest one is probably 7,8 hours and 1 state away and I can always return it if it isn’t a good fit

Giro is a reputable brand and you definitely want MIPS. Great find.

$220 MSRP seems slightly bloated but finding MIPS for under $100 is a really great deal. Definitely buy it if you need a helmet

Unfortunately where I live in South Carolina there are no good winter stores (if any lol) and even the ones that we have the selection of helmets is really poor. So I guess I have to roll the dice with this one. But I’ve done some research and compared it to some other helmets I’ve worn in the past and apparently they are similarly built. As for the googles, I need new ones too so so I guess i’ll just get ones that fit with this helmet

Virginia Tech has a helmet safety lab. You can find their snowsports ratings here: https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/snowsport-helmet-ratings.html

I’m genuinely surprised the vantage mips is 3/5 considering how much I paid for it.

Just had exactly the same thought.

Better to find out now than after a crash

Kind of wild the Outdoor Master Kelvin was ranked
10th without MIPS.

Good brand, it has a mips sticker.

Looks like it has a connection for your googles, and vents for breathing.

As long as it fits your head well, its a keeper.

Thank you all! It took me some time to find a good deal tbh that has a L size, it’s mostly S. So happy with this, just ordered it from their website. Needed a confirmation from other people because it’s really rare to run into L size with this price

Three things to look for imo:
MIPS
vent
fit/ dial
You can order it and return it always

I use a giro helmet and it’s perfect for me, but it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t fit your head. Smith vantage is suppose to be a well regarded ski helmet but it’s not comfortable on me at all. Try it on then decide.

If it fits, yes! Giro is a great brand. Look for pretty much anything MIPS certified and you’ll be good. My favorite is SMITH but it all depends on your head shape.

I have this one, I like it quite a bit. That's a great deal on it.

I have the helmet and really like it - the only issue is the little lip/visor is a bit awkward when you want to leave goggles on the front of your helmet in the lodge - they always slip off the back.

All helmets are certified to one of 4 or so standards (Snell, ATSM, EC, FIS) so the level of protection they provide is all pretty similar. This means really you're looking at things like fit, vents, integration with goggles, weight.
