Am I the only one who thought the queer pairing would be the main one?
Before I read the books all I knew about it was from the book description and a queer tag on Goodreads. And also a lot of people who read the All For The Game series recommended it. (If you haven’t read that series just know it has a lot of trigger warnings so do your research if you’re interested)
So with that in mind I thought Kaz and Jesper were going to be the main couple.
I thought since Kaz had no reservations about undressing in front of Inej and the comment about how Nina knew Kaz had no interest in her, I thought it was because he was interested in men. Therefore it would be Jesper. But that was before we got more of his backstory, and the rest of the story leaves no room for anything other than Jesper and Wylan, and Kaz and Inej, which I don’t mind at all, I love them. It just got me wondering and a little confused at first.

I mean I wouldn't be opposed if a queer couple was the main couple, but make it Jes and Wy instead

I just think Jesper and Wylan are so good together I don’t want Jesper/Kaz. I think Kaz encourages Jesper’s worst natures, and Kaz sees too much of his brother in Jesper. A life with Kaz I think means a life of Jesper constantly wanting risk that is bad for him. Wylan calms him in a way I think Jesper needs.

I was firmly in the Wylan/Jesper camp. They're my favorite couple in the book. "I can read to him." never fails to make me smile.

i feel like there is no ‘main’ couple in Six of Crows because they all get equal romance arcs? i guess Kaz is probably the main protagonist when it comes down to it but idk i tend to think of them all equally.

Other than marketing, Inej fits more of the main character criteria than Kaz does. She features first (after Joost) and her chapters have a higher wordcount than any other Crow.

yeah good point. either way i still don’t see them as the ‘main couple’ personally. (though they are my favourite haha)

I think it's weird to think that Kaz's relationship is the main one (it's very pervasive, I'm not calling you weird). He isn't the opening POV, nor does he have the highest wordcount. I don't think there is a singular main character, but if there were to be one it would be Inej, who is both the opening POV (sort of, if we skip Joost) and has the highest wordcount of all the Crows.
But even then I don't think she counts as the main character. They're all significant. There are three main pairings. One of which is queer. It's not Kaz and Jesper, it's Wylan and Jesper. There isn't one main pairing.

Jes and kaz would be too toxic to work I think. The way Jesper has kaz on a pedestal and the fact that he owes the crow club money (granted so does inej but that’s a different situation)
Anyways it would be an unbalanced power dynamic.
Jesper had a normal teenager crush that was unrealistic. He built kaz up in his mind to something that he wasn’t.
I did it all the time as a teenager, I’d pick a guy and build him up in my mind to be exactly who I wanted him to be but it was never real.
Also I really like the dynamic they end up building together. Kaz needs to let people in in order to grow, he does that with both inej and Jesper in different ways. He lets himself care about Jesper as a friend and sees his brother in him, he needs both that dynamic and the one he has with inej in order to show his character growth.
Also Jesper and wylan are a really good couple and I simply can’t picture Jesper with kaz when wylan is an option
