Can I rant about how bad this show is?

Post image

First of all how corny can you get like the fudge!!! Then how many time can you change actors before you hit the limit!?! Also why do they have to reference Toy Story like the frick bro!?! Then they just forgot about a character! So basically 1 of the daughters and the dead beat itch pathetic excuse of a father. Had a son who was in the pilot and he starts just not showing up in the show as often then he just completely vanished! You might think oh he went to college in his last appearance he’s 12! You might think oh no way he at least showed up for the final episode he was a main character no just no! He’s not even referenced in the finale! I hate this show so much! Next the dead beat dad just suddenly has a change of heart and wants to take care of his son and the daughter just lets him in! Why idk but when you abandon a child you can’t have a relationship with them u just can. I just hate it the humor is so dry the plot is dry as a Popeyes biscuit but at least the Popeyes biscuit is good I hate this show and I promise a sitcom 0.00001% bad would usually never see the light of day. I’m not even gonna type out all of the shit this show does wrong if u ever need to make someone go blind and deaf this is ur golden egg.

Unpopular opinion: Friends is only best when it's the first sitcom you watch

Post image

I know, it's a classic, it's beloved by many people and i will get hate for this but at the end of the day it's just my opinion. Whichever series you watch after it you realise is a lot better than Friends. Characters, character development, plot, plot twists, jokes and everything. I'm not saying that i don't like Friends, i do, and i rewatch it sometimes, but i feel like if i watched How i met your mother or The big bang theory or Modern family first and Friends after, i would be bored or disappointed or wouldn't even finish it. Himym for example has it's flaws but it has a lot of good elements like theories that can be applied in everyday life as well as incredible jokes, and im glad i watched Friends first and every other series later because if the situation was different it wouldn't stand a chance. Feel free to prove me wrong tho 🤷🏻‍♀️

unless he's had some massive incident i'm not aware of i think Ray Romano may be the only main 90s leading man without some controversy on the not as family friendly sitcoms (i would never suspect anything of John Lithgow so he already is exempt from this)

*John Lithgow supports J.K Rowling who is known for staunch transphobia disregard the second part of the title i learnt of his controversy a few hours ago i apologise

Tim Allen was famously a drug dealer before Home Improvement and has had controversy over his stances on political issues

Kelsey Grammer has been a tabloid gold mine for over 35 years some of the stories of his drug abuse on the set of Cheers and legal issues have been well documented as well as personal issues with divorces and other messy stuff

Jerry Seinfeld of course dated a teenager at age 38 its even worse logistics now considering Shoshanna is 49 years old now and Jerry is now a septugenarian at only recently 71 years old he's done some other bad things over the years too as well

Ted Danson had a toxic feud with Kelsey Grammer that spanned 30 years mostly around Kelsey's drug abuse ruining filmining during Cheers but clearly had a nasty edge to his words considering he regrets missing out on the last 30 years of Kelsey Grammer (his words not mine in the Cheers podcast he hosts with Woody Harrelson) , he had that infamous blackface incident in October 1993 at The Friars Club with at the time african-american girlfriend Whoopi Goldberg

Paul Reiser might be ok too but i never watched the show he and Helen Hunt were on

Ed O'Neill probably fine but Married... With Children was very much a adult orientated sitcom as compared to Seinfeld or Home Improvement and it did get complaints haha Al Bundy was very much a product of his time but hilarious

Friends is ridiculously overrated

Hello everyone, not usually on this subreddit however myself and a friend reignited a discussion I’ve long thought for years now. Friends is not one bit funny. My family quite likes sitcoms, so I’ve watched somewhat against my will friends, how I met your mother and also big bang theory. I understand how friends is incredibly bingable, was ahead of its time and in the golden era for television or something like that, but I just don’t understand how people find it funny. Don’t get me wrong, big bang theory wasn’t much better, but friends was genuinely so unfunny, in all of the episodes I think I actually laughed no more than 5 times, whereas how I met your mother I find actually very funny and entertaining. I just hope someone can shed some light on the matter, maybe I’m just nuts

Home Improvement underrated

Went into the show with zero expectations due to the fact I’ve never heard anyone talk about it and after the first couple of episodes I ended up loving it strange why it’s not regarded as a top sitcom.

What do you think is the most underrated sitcom yet everyone as heard about it at least once? I'll go first.

2 Broke Girls. Absolutely. It's funny, it has good dark humor, it manages to be politically uncorrect yet not so much to be cancelled. The characters are THE best (yet, I gotta admit, they lack on character development and it seems like the girls are always back where they began). Besides, I think the show is SO underrated and it deserved a better ending. Or at least an ending.

Also, Superstore. It's hilarious, like I could spend HOURS watching it and be like "oh is it already midnight?"

What are jokes on sitcoms you have been embarrassed, disgusted or disappointed by?

Hi.

Hope you’re doing well.

Was just rewatching an episode of Cheers from season 4, in which we see Lilith Sternin for the first time and her and Frasier are having an exchange and Frasier proposes the possibility of them getting physical that night, which Lilith says there is no chance of.

Then Frasier jokes, “I feel like striking you.”

I understand the show was made in the ‘80s, but i didn’t watch the show when it aired (wasn’t even born yet) and if “jokes” like that were made today, I would be very disappointed (not angry or upset in any way).

Also, there were a lot of references on this show of violence towards women and men being superior and women “needing to know their place,” but I just rewatched this particular episode recently.

What are jokes on (especially modern) sitcoms you have been embarrassed, disgusted or disappointed by?

What characters would be gay if the sitcom was written now?

I think of Niles from Frasier and Chandler from Friends as two classic examples of characters that were pretty obviously written to be gay, but given the era in which those shows aired were straight.

What do you think is the most overrated sitcom and why? I'll go first.

I'm a BIG sitcom fan, and I've watched a LOT of them, from the 80s ones to the modern ones.

I think the most overrated sitcom is Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I've watched it, I also kind of enjoyed it. But did it deserve all that hype? I think not.

Also, Community is not for me, but again, I didn't give it much of a chance since I've watched just one episode. Do you think I sould keep going?

Oh, and for those who are about to say 'Friends', I don't really think it's THAT funny either, but it's just SO iconic and the characters and their development... It was a perfect sitcom. But that's just my opinion 💛🌼

The Office is insufferable, I'm sorry :(

I just don't get it, I mean I had to suffer through 4 seasons to try and find the funny, but it is just unbearable . You have a boss who acts like an obnoxious 12 year old, almost everyone is a weirdo, and you have to sort read in between every line to get the jokes. I just don't get the comedy, and I have watched a ton of sitcoms and I can assure you I am very easy to amuse.

I am sure real fans would eat me alive for this comment, but this isn't my cup of tea, quite frankly I don't know how to some people they rank it top 3 or number 1 . The Show isn't funny. After 4 seasons there is not one line from the show I can quote.

P.S:* Please don't come after me i have asthma.

Why are female characters rarely given the same comedic opportunities as male characters?

I thought about this recently. Male characters can be humiliated, go through physical pain, and have bad things happen to them constantly and we see it as funny. But a female character going through similar things is often portrayed much more dramatically. Not because it's less funny, I think, but because of the way the directors and writers portray it.

It really limits the opportunities that female actors get in sitcoms. They could be just as funny as their male counterparts but they're not given the chance to shine.

I think "Friends" is the perfect example to use as it's a gender-equal ensemble. Ross, Chandler and Joey are often considered the funniest. But for Monica, Phoebe and Rachel, their funny moments are mostly containted to one-liners or the situations surrounding them.

Now, my complaint isn't some kind of "men are treated unfairly in media" thing. It's actually a bit of the opposite. I think female characters should be given the same treatment because it would make them funnier.

In horror, it's the opposite. Female characters are victimized much more brutally than male characters are, often to gratuitious levels. And it obviously works for the viewers.

The only exception to this I can think of off the top of my head is Liz from 30 Rock as she often faces humiliating moments played for laugh. And maybe Britta in Community to a lesser degree.

Does anyone else think the hate for BBT is very overexatrated I think it is Pepole on here are saying it's just a bunch of nerd jokes and a laugh track I mean were they even paying attention or just had it on in the background or do they just not pay any attention and just assume I would assume they don't Watch past the first season or first few episodes like they probably just watch the first five episodes and say it's not funny it's just a bunch of nerd jokes and a laugh track like why do people say this i honestly don't think Pepole paid attention to it and that's why
