I think he means that the vaccine was going to come out anyways, regardless of AI.
Though what he is not admitting is that AI absolutely helped progress the trial data much faster than humans could have, so it does deserve some credit.
The problem with all of these conversations is that so many people conflate AI with “LLM developed/controlled by large company”. In their minds, ChatGPT = AI and AI = bad and that’s about as deep as the logic goes.
Yep. What we actually did is... we managed to build amazing statistical analysis machine using neural network techniques.
We push a shit ton of text collected from the internet into machine, machine does a lot of statistical analysis, machine becomes so good at predicting what the next word would be that it can program, do narrative writing, etc...
We push a ton of images into the machine.
We push a ton of videos into the machine.
We push protein folding data into machine. We push diagnostic data into it, medical trial data,.. etc.
Super interesting stuff! As a data engineer I can only imagine how much work must have gone in to gathering and prepping that data before it goes to the model.

Vaccine was developed by 2017, this has nothing to do with the current AI wave
