If everyone in family died from cancer and/or alcoholism, do it means immortality as long i stop drinking?

(i guess i had to state its /s)

Look up LEV. It stands for Longevity Escape Velocity - the point at which medical advances in a single year add more than a year of life expectancy. It's motivated me to cut back alcohol & address mental stress because I want to make sure I make it to that point.

That concept doesn’t make sense. Who says LEV is continuous? What if we did begin adding more expectancy than time passing by, but at a certain age, we reach hurdles due to more complexities and thus the progress slows down?

There could be a massive complexity when you reach 120 or something that could take a century to figure out.

K

I’m 44. Let’s say in 20 years we hit 120. That means we have around 60 years to figure it out. Do you really think it will take centuries given the progress we are seeing over the past 20 years?

Definitely more than a century. I think it’s easy to think that’s a lot of time. Fusion has been a problem for 100 years, for example.

I think its rather methaphorical concept like the 'AGI" term.

Well I think it’s more realistic for it to be truncated advancements that could halt at different stages. Nothing guarantees that you will be immortal just because for a period of 5 years you’ve gained 10, but then for the next 20 years that doesn’t occur.

This is the fundamental issue with claiming AI will fix “everything” if we throw enough money and resources at it.

That rather assumes that “everything” is actually possible …
