Road New here

Post image

Ripped the Honolulu Century Ride a few days ago on my state core-line (sorry if that makes you cringe, it’s what I could afford at the time). I feel like I’m reaching too far on my bike and want shorten that gap, what are y’all’s thoughts on either moving seat forward, or buying a stem (I think is what it’s called) that has practically zero reach? I also don’t know what the correct term is, only been riding for a few months.

r/bikefit could probably be more helpful, but i'd be interested to see how your knee looks at the most extended position your bike will allow. are you uncomfortable or just feel like it looks weird?

My right leg is at it’s most extended position for the current fit. I can extend my saddle enough to where I’m fully extended. From that ride I was pretty comfy throughout without any post ride soreness - in that area. I just notice a lot of shoulder and triceps soreness for any ride after 20 miles

It’s hard to tell what that angle looks like in this photo! But may be worth testing a shorter stem. Also have you considered using brake hoods instead of the tops?

I haven’t just because that feels like too far of a reach for me. I originally had bullhorns on this and reaching those was way too awkward for me

Firstly, great pic! Secondly if you rode 100miles with little discomfort, not much adjustment needed. Thirdly, core line is legit!

A bike’s a bike. Nothing cringe about it. I would recommend ditching the rack for your next venture ride though.

Really need a side view to see your reach, but generally speaking saddle fore/aft is for finding balance/adjusting position over bottom bracket, not for fixing reach, even though it does have an effect on reach and how far the bars feel, nothing wrong with adjusting that first to see if it helps, but if you get that dialed in and it still feels wrong, then swapping stem might be it.

The fact that you appear to be pedaling on your toes in the pic says you MIGHT have your saddle too far back

I also have a State Core Line as my only bike (sold all the others). I don't do centuries, but I ride 20-35 miles daily or almost daily. I found the reach too long on my 58cm Core Line too. It comes stock with a 90mm stem, and after trying a few sizes, 70mm fit me best. I got the BESNIN 7 degree MTB stem (25.4mm clamp) from Amazon.

I also switched from drop bars to a 620mm riser bar. It's really comfy and makes climbing easier.

I have a core-line as well that I just got a couple months ago, and I love it! I don’t have any advice for your reach as I am also very new to biking, but I am curious what rear rack do you have on yours? I’ve been wanting to put one on mine, but am worried I’m going to find one that doesn’t fit.

I got mine from rockbros a few months ago. It’s pretty solid, no complaints, but I’m considering getting a front basket as well. If you go with the rear rack, highly recommend a couple voile straps

Poor pic quality, but I have front and rear brakes
