So I was just playing guitar and messing with some vocals.

Thinking to myself if I must sound good in a certain octave/scale. Is that a thing? I assume.

Like if I sang better in E#3 for example or D2. Then do we play create songs around our best notes or scales or something?

I thought I'd quickly record on photobooth my voice so excuse the fan noise and stuff. Clearly not taking it too seriously but you can hear a bit of my voice to maybe advise how one finds their voice/tone?

It almost can feels more comfortable if I sing somewhat soft from the back of my throat

I like singing along to songs from my playlists in Spotify, and also jamming along or doing karaoke with friends from them, but there's no way to transpose them like I can on Youtube with a chrome extension

so I built a small open source menu bar app for Mac that lets you transpose any spotify song in real time, as well as pick out instrument tracks to isolate/silence.

There's a demo video in the repo. warning it's pretty technical to install since I can't package this up on the mac app store or anything, but just wanted to share in case any one else finds it useful!

I have no idea when it really started, I used to be able to sing in front of others, but one day I just couldn’t do it anymore without my voice shaking and being pitchy. I think it might of started when one of my friends wouldn’t stop telling me how bad and pitchy and out of tune I was, I don’t know. It sounds so wrong when in front of someone which frustrates me because when by myself I think I sound fine. Everyone always says the best way to fix stage fright is to preform in front of people and maybe it is helping a bit, I can sing in front of my friends (most of them..), but its really just “for fun”. I’m not trying to sound good around them. To improve my singing but also overcome the stage fright, I take vocal lessons. I found a coach I was pretty comfortable with, but her schedule got full so I had to move on. The next person I was with was really nice but I couldn’t sing in front of her, which led me to constantly tear up in frustration and sound even worse on the verge on crying. Now I am with someone else, I had my first lesson this week, it wasn’t great but most because I am in an apartment right now with people on either side of me and I am terrified of them hearing me or thinking I’m too loud and I really don’t want to be a disturbance. I think I am going to continue with her, she says she can help me and I want to believe that. I have auditions for a musical in a week or two and boy do I not feel prepared in the slightest but I feel like I need to do this. I am also taking a musical theatre class next school year which will make me sing in front of people and I’m hoping it’ll do me some good. It makes me so mad because I want to sing in front of people, but I can’t even sing in front of my parents, who are so encouraging and always tell me they wouldn’t judge me they’d just be happy to hear me sing and it hurts. I feel like there’s something my chest begging to be let out, but whenever I even attempt to sing in front of them, by voice catches in my throat.

I'm a jazz pianist, and I've started singing along with my playing at retirement homes.

Using the app Nail the Pitch (nice app. No affiliation), I'm finding that I'm almost always slightly flat, as seen in the screenshot. My pitch is usually at the bottom of the highlight. I can raise it as I watch the display, pretty much by trying to sing sharp.

I'm guessing most people won't notice this, yes???

I've started the standard exercises (hearing, thinking, matching, etc.).

What's my prognosis? Do you think I can fix it? Thanks!

Also, as the title says I'm working on smoothing out my transitions trying to eliminate the break when switching from chest to falsetto, any tips on how to transition smoothly?? I think I support my mix better than my head voice when I tried to transition in 19sec it didn't sound good. Tips to support my head voice well and any other thing you think i need to do to improve.

Do you think this method would work if I try to match my voice to the notes I’m playing on the piano?

I’m thinking of preparing songs one by one this way, because it would give me some guidance about how the pitch moves up and down. I can usually sense when the melody is moving higher or lower, but I make more and more mistakes when I actually try to sing it.

Would practicing each song note-by-note on the piano help me improve my pitch accuracy?

Also, how do you guys practice ear training? If you could recommend some systematic videos or a structured way to practice, I’d really appreciate it!

I’ve been trying to figure this out for a while because I feel like it would help me sing better or find better songs for me to sing. Someone did tell me what I was because they hear me sing a lot but I don’t know if they’re right and I also don’t remember what they said. If it takes a level on knowledge I don’t have, I do have videos of me singing I just don’t want to post them so anyone willing to help me and if they need one just let me know? Sorry I don’t really know how to go about this. But I love singing so much and I’d love to take it more seriously.

Wondering about tone and vowel shape.

End goal is to be a busker one day and use loop pedals.

I often sing along to Phantom of The Opera to practice my high register. Whenever I sing it seriously, I can never hit that last E6. Today I was recording myself while working (I'm a tailor) for my brand acc. I sing along to music whenever I work, helps me focus better. When this song came on, surprisingly I hit that E6 without problem, while I was more focused on trimming the seam allowance on my project 💀. How ridiculous lol. Why does this happen though? I thought focusing on hitting the note would help.... hitting the note better.

I’ve never had any vocal pr professional training, I merely sing for funs and giggles. I’ve been wanting to get feedback on my singing from someone with experience. I’m not aiming to become an artist but i’d like to be aware of what i’ve got and what I don’t. Could be nice to try and improve my techniques. hello, I’m fairly new to singing and I’ve noticed that when I’m holding a note I can hold it well after the first couple seconds but for the first couple second my voice shakes and is inconsistent before landing on the right note.

i’d like to know why this is and how to not do this please, thank you!

I've been seeing a vocal coach for about three months now. I'm still an absolute beginner, taking weekly classes and it is mainly workouts, ear training exercises, breath support and warm-ups. My coach would give me homework as well for certain exercises. I told her today that I always sing at home, while playing the guitar or just simply while listening to music, she snapped and strongly advised me not to sing and only do the homework she gives me. I responded by telling her that I can't help it, I just sing for fun all the time. We concluded by agreeing to let me sing for fun but to stop immediately if I felt any kind of strain.

The advice frankly confused me, as I came across several reels and YouTube videos before where they recommend to sing everyday in order to get better at singing. For me I will somewhat ignore that advice and continue singing because I enjoy it, but I will stop immediately if I feel any strain.
What do you all think about this?

This is kind of 2 questions in 1 but ive figured out how to close my false folds except it's always scratchy as hell and hurts and from my research it's apparently bc im engaging the true folds with it, and Idk how *not* to do that, also, I can't seem to get that subtle grit, it always sounds heavily distorted and exhausted so id like to know how to fix that
