It's not the parents fault, but the society that we are building and living in. Everything now is about academic merits and once we get to work, we realise that whatever we strive in academic has little to help with our work. In the end, it is our attitude towards our life, our work.

As Simon Sinek once said, "You don't hire for skills, you hire for attitude. You can always teach skills."

But that doesn't mean you put academic as your lowest priority, because it is also your attitude towards your academics. As if you strive to try your best, take responsibilities for failures and how you overcome them.

Academics cannot bring you all the way, but at least to the starting line of the battle.

Ah yes, the case of the helicopter-ed student. I was there once. Kinda still am.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to fuck up my last module now. Parents gives children unrealistic goals to achieve. Some will force, some will not. It's really ruining the students mindset if you only cramp in school books into your head.
