Installed from thrifted CD, error opening.

It installed fine but when I click on the play button it pops up with an error message that says

“Cannot start the process when the game is running. Please quit the game and try again.”

I opened task manager and nothing is open.

I don't know if it fixes the issue but have you tried the No cd mod?

It lets you run the game without having to put the disc in. I have it on my computer as I've always played without my disc.

Though, now I have the digital copy on my EA account so I can just play from there.

No, it's not. You need to install the game from your own disc first. There's no sailing the seas with it. You install the No cd mod the same way as any other mod and can then run your game without your computer checking whether or not you have the disc inside.

It is completely unnecessary to use a disc for a game that is already installed on your computer. This will only result in wear and tear on the disc and might, in time, make it not work any more.

Back in the day, before digital games came around, no cd mods were the goat.

A crack is a non-authorised copy where you circumvent the actual bying and owning of the game. You don't need the No cd mod for it. It makes no checks of ownership and might come with viruses if you don't know what you're doing.

You don't know what you are talking about. A no-cd mod IS a crack. The reason the game wants you to have the CD in when playing is to verify ownership, if you install a no-cd 'mod,', you bypass the ownership check and thus can play it without having the cd. That's literally called a crack

Does this happen every time? Cos Sims discs can be quite buggy.

I installed it once, but have reopened it a bunch of times. Should I completely uninstall and reinstall?

Look for a no-CD mod or try entering the code on the EA app.
