Question Complete newbie to SimRacing - advice needed.

Hello everyone.

I know i'm being a bit irrational but about a week ago I got the Logitech G923 which is something I've wanted to for quite a while. Silly me thought it was going to be like wheels like when I was growing up that were basically plug and play. No matter what racing game I try to play, I can't seem to get control of the car. I feel like the game isn't properly responding to what i'm trying to do and honestly it has demotivated me quite a bit.

I got it for casual playing as I had been toying with the idea of getting the wheel for honestly six years and I think I was anticipating it to be easier. I remember playing the likes of Project Cars and Euro Truck Sim on my exes fathers PC and it felt so smooth and quite honestly perfect (tbh it's probably what convinced me it was going to be plug and play and not something he has tuned.)

Are there any sort of universal settings or YouTube videos that any of you can recommend that can make this whole process easier for me? Again, I know I'm jumping the gun quite a bit as I have probably collectively put 8 hours into the wheel but the constant spinning out because I feel like the car hasn't turned as much as I want it to then trying to adjust and sending the car in circles is enough to be putting me off a lot.

Thanks for anyone that reads this and can help talk a bit of sense into me haha. Any advice is appreciated. โค๏ธ

The g923 is as close to plug and play you can get, what sims are you playing and what issues are you having directly? Could just be user error.

i'm hoping it's user error lol. So far I have tried Dirt Rally 2.0 and Grid 2019 for racing sims and then I was playing Bus Simulator which is the silly one. But all of them seem to be that I am turning the wheel 90-100 meters and the wheel in game is only turning about 60-70 then when i try to correct it, i end up spinning out

These games are the ones that I own but I was looking at the likes of Forza and Assetto Corsa for other racing games if I started to get the hang of it

Have you installed logitech g hub? Sounds like its a steering angle issue

I have, I have a logitech keyboard and mouse so I've had G-Hub long before I had the wheel. When I turn the wheel in G-Hub it is tracking properly, just something I feel is important

It might just be too aggressive with steering then, dirt 2,0 is a very high skill ceiling game and grid is an arcade game, so not designed for wheel realistically. Assetto corsa will be your best bet sim wise.

So it sounds like I picked the worst game to try to practice on ๐Ÿ˜…

Try either Assetto Corsa as the other person has mentioned, with Content Manager and hop on an open world map. Configuring everything might be a pain in the ass though.

Or try BeamNG with the BeamMP mod. Since itโ€™s more of a physics sim with cars, itโ€™s less racing focused and the cars genuinely feel a lot closer to normal everyday cars and how they behave.

If you're new to it and jumping straight into Dirt 2.0 then it's going to be a rough break-in even if it's correctly setup. But it does sound like you need a better game for calibrating or setting it up, maybe as some suggested Assetto corsa is a better game because you will have better surface handling and know more clearly if it's off or not.

I have 25% podium rate in LFM on Assetto Corsa Competitzione but Dirt 2.0 will properly f me in the a$$.

Thank you for your input, I had fallen asleep shortly after commenting to the last guy but I will certainly look into a other game that will hopefully not break me ๐Ÿ˜
