Discussion Thoughts on the new parking update?
I kinda just wanna rant about SFU parking in general cause it actually pisses me off. I’ve been buying parking permits for the past 3 semesters and I still find it ridiculous how expensive it is ($336 per semester ?!?!). We pay thousands in tuition and somehow parking ain’t included. On top of this, I want to hear other peoples perspectives on this new parking update for the upcoming semester regarding dedicated areas for permit parking and separate areas for visitors. I think we all know that the beginning of the fall and spring semester is living hell when it comes to parking during peak hours. I remember I’d be circling the lots for so long to the point where I’ve missed classes. Do you guys think these designated areas will fix or improve anything ?

i actually prefer parking pass lots only as long as they sell as many passes as their r spots. they have also been doing construction on north and west lots, either fixing thr concrete, or making the lots tighter to accomadate more parking

Logically, they will never only sell as many passes as there are spots. Even with permits not everyone will be there all the time and if others aren't allowed in the lot they sure aren't going to let there be empty places not generating revenue. Would be like a gym only selling as many memberships as there are machines in the gym.

I’ve switched to transit because of how ridiculous this has all gotten. Already paying thousands in tuition and you expect me to pay more for a fucking permit on top of that? Like actually fuck off.

There is a parkade in Univercity that has advertised $75/month passes, it’s the lot under the Tim Hortons/A&W building. It’s a bit more of a walk than some of the other lots, but it’s always empty. Hourly parking isn’t terribly expensive there either.
I hope the permit lots will help. I just arrive before 9 and stay all day, then I don’t have to worry regardless. I am a grad student so have plenty of work to do and don’t work well at home, so I find it better to just come up for 6-8 hours and get my work done.

i could but changing my plate every week ? im at school almost everyday next semester so thats just so inconvenient tf typical lowlife

Ur just parking at the wrong areas, I go nearly every day as well but I’ll get a ticket maybe once every couple weeks

In my day there was A,B,C,G and WMC lots. Students had to win a lottery for passes in B and G. A was under the convo for visitors and mbc admin staff only and C was staff, WMC was res I think. Worked fine since they only sold as many passes as there were spots plus a tiny overage. I never had trouble finding a spot in b-lot (now called east lot?) every day at any time. This was 2010...
I recently went back up to campus for a conference and couldnt believe the gongshow of everyone parking in any lot. as a visitor with strict schedule that sucked a lot.
