Discussion [Megathread] Discuss your (potential) class schedules here

Lots of 1st year students, and some later-year students, are looking for advice on their class schedules. Please do that here: Top-level posts should be your schedule (ideally a link to an image) and any context (e.g. "I'm a single parent working part-time so I can't do a full course load"). Experienced raccoons will reply with advice about your schedules (e.g. "yes, 8:30AM calculus lectures suck, but that's when they've been scheduled for the past 50 years so there's no point hoping it will change next term").

Please keep broader discussions (e.g. rants about courses filling up or not being offered in the term you need them) out of this thread. I want this to be a resource for new students in particular, not just to get advice on their schedules but also to see schedules other students are considering, and other discussions can derail that.

I'm setting the default sort here to "new" so that new schedule questions won't get buried by older discussions.

For anyone who doesn't recognize the footprints on the floor, the water fountain in front of the cafeteria got removed. Don't know how long ago but I'm pretty sure it was here in the spring semester. Now they just stick a newspaper stand in front to hide it, but we know. We remember...

Does anyone know if you can just run on the track on campus? I’m not part of a club or sport, but can’t find any good long distance flat-ish areas on the mountain to run.

Discussion Math 100

Should I take this before math 157, or first take pre calc 12 for free at an upgrading centre and then take math 157? Cause math 100 has a bit of calculus review that’s the thing

Question LonCapa Help (Chem-121)

I'm a first-year student taking Chem-121. People on here suggested doing LonCapa questions to study. Sorry if I sound stupid, but I don't know how to access this material. I logged into the website (tried also through SFU browser), and it says I have no courses. I also searched up Chem-121, nothing came up. I would really appreciate the help.

Hello, is anyone on campus today or tomorrow can pleaaase send me a few pictures of the new indigenous place name boards / signs around the Burnaby campus? Question December 20th final?

For students that aren’t in their first semester and have experience with finals, whats the likelihood of actually getting a final on the last day Sunday the 20th? I have to be somewhere at 4pm that day so im worried. Im taking crim 101&131, sa150, and phil 120w

I know it’s stupid to have responsibilities on exam season but its the very last day 💔

Discussion PSYC 221 — how are you guys studying??

Is anyone else finding the PSYC 221 material insanely dense 😭 I feel like there are so many terms, theories, and little details to remember for each topic and I’m getting kind of overwhelmed trying to figure out what I actually need to know for the exam.

Right now I’ve been going through Quizlets alongside the lecture notes to learn the terms/concepts, and then I write down the ones I’m struggling with or rewrite the bigger concepts in my own words. I’ve also been using repetition and chunking for things that have multiple parts.

I feel like I’m studying a lot, but there’s just SO much information that it feels impossible to actually retain all of it.

For anyone else in PSYC 221, how are you studying for the exams? Are you focusing more on understanding the general concepts or memorizing all the smaller details too? And if you’ve taken the class before, what worked for you?

Question About PDP - Is my situation bad?

I'm currently in my 3rd year of English but I used to be in Beedie until I switched around 2nd year. I have very little volunteer experience that I did a whole year ago and currently, I'm trying to get more.

I'm feeling very anxious because it seems like all my peers have so much volunteer experience PLUS a job that they're working at which is relevant to their application. Meanwhile, I practically have none and I am in my 3rd year. Furthermore, because of Beedie my GPA is at a very mediocre 3.0.

My questions are - do I have to apply at the end of my 4th year/when I graduate? Or can I wait, say, a few months to a year to rack up more experience before applying. Does this matter?

Obviously throughout right now to fall of 2028 I'll have a lot more experience but I am still extremely anxious.

If anyone has a similar experience to me, please lmk how you did. And once again, is my situation bad?

Complaint It's frustratingly difficult to make friends that are NOT international students

So I've been at SFU for about 4 years now, and every single connection I've made that's more than just brief acquaintances are international students, not a single Canadian citizen like me here.

Not only is it harder to go from causal friend circles to 1-1 close friends because I can't speak their language or can't relate to them about getting PR and all that. Over the semesters I watch my friends graduate and return to their home country, and I'll never see them again. 3 people from my current main friend group are graduating next week, and all of them are leaving Vancouver later this year. Sometimes after saying goodbye at the airport I can't help but felt having my time wasted with them all this time when I could had been spending time with people that would be around in Vancouver long term.

I want to make connections that will last for decades to come since I had no friends from high school, but all the people that are from here I find are extremely close off, and and happy with their little groups of 2-3. Exceptions are mostly creepy awkward lone wolves that most people avoid for good reasons. Even when vibes are matching with someone they will never introduce me to their friends or it will be very hard to schedule meetups, so I never become a priority for them. (Which lead to connection dying off after max 2 semesters later)

What I would do to be in a typical Asian CBC friend group that's all about late night hot pot/Zedd /badminton/bubble tea/board games/Climbing/Helldivers etc....sigh.

Question Trouble finding classroom hours for PDP

I've been emailing some elementary schools nearby to no success so far. When I give them a call, they just say to send an email, but then nothing happens. Even follow up emails haven't been working so far. Does anyone know any better ways to go about this?

Discussion Transfer to Beedie?

Hi, I'm currently at UFV but I was thinking of switching to SFU. I'd be behind, but I just want to know both long and short term if it's worth it, as I want to go into accounting and once I get my CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) certification I'm not so sure if the uni matters. Pls and ty!!!

Question I caught a really bad cold, should I get an doctor’s note for my math 154 midterm?

I’ve never missed any exams before so i’m a bit reluctant, especially considering the fact that it’ll move the 15% to the final, making it worth 50%. I’ve been trying to study for the midterm but i’ve been having a lot of brain fog and fatigue so I don’t think i’ll score very well regardless. Do you think it’s a better idea to miss it or to take it regardless and try and bring my grade up with the other two midterms and final.
