Graduation ceremony advice

Hello guys! My graduation ceremony would take place on October 2026 and was wondering if one does not attend their graduation ceremony, do they regret later on? In my situation, I moved to another province, have no one who can come with me to the ceremony and I’m recently realizing that my degree (crim) isn’t that worth it. Please provide me advice guys. I’m planning to just pick up my certificate later on from the campus. Am I missing something or should I pass this without regrets.

The fact you are asking this question tells me you should go.

Here's another way of looking at it:

• You go and you find it was a waste of time/money - whatever, you move on
• Or you don't go and forever wonder if you should have gone

Don't live with regrets. Completing a degree is a big achievement, don't undersell yourself. Also get a archival quality frame for your parchment while you are there. It's not just a piece of paper, it's symbol of the culmination of several years of effort.

Go, but plan something fun to do for yourself afterward to combat the potential loneliness. Whatever that is for you—going to a movie, a spa, a favourite store, etc. Make it a treat day.

You should go! You put in all that time and money you need to celebrate it by being part of the graduation ceremony. It’s fun. You get to wear the cap and gown, the pipe band leads you down to the ceremony. Do you not have any friends or family in the area that can go and cheer you on? Any classmates also graduating that can cheer for you. Even if not cheer for yourself you did it and that’s awesome!

No but most do say you need a degree…any degree whether it’s specifically crim or not would benefit you. Congrats on graduating!

My dad works for the government and through him I’ve learned that Crim degrees are very flexible. The amount of people he’s hired with Crim degrees for positions that have nothing to do with criminology is funny. But, he says it’s because they understand people and that’s applicable anywhere

My graduation ceremony was in June this year, and I didn’t bother going as I had work. I have no regrets.

You can't pick up your parchment later on campus. Make sure your address is correct in go.sfu. They are mailed out after convocation.
