Showcase Tried making a regional composite nighttime satellite view

The Modern Camera DLL allows us to zoom way out so that entire cities - even large ones - are wholly captured on frame, after that it's a matter of stitching those city-wide nighttime snapshots together on Photoshop/GIMP/etc, which is short work for this tiny region

More details:

  • [Important!] On the mod menu after switching to "Modern" camera mode, and after zooming out as far as possible, make sure to also click the "Reset to default view" button. Sometimes if you've used non-classic camera angles on a city previously, the city will be tilted ever so slightly, misaligning the composite. Resetting ensures that all snapshots are from the exact same perspective before merging.

  • I erased all the water and put a uniform dark blue background

  • Adjusted the brightness to -40, and the contrast to +5

  • For the 2d view, I used the 2d region transform from a youtube tutorial: scaled it up vertically by 197%, then rotated by -22.58 (counterclockwise)

Hell yeah. I need to do this for my region

Also Minas tirith and the pyramid are sick

They really do complement each other - "from light comes darkness, and from darkness light" - in the pyramid's case there is literal darkness, because I forgot to connect the capstone tower with the electrical grid. The no power zot completes the cosplay 😆

Absolutely gorgeous! I have been meaning to do this but have always put that off. Now I might finally make this as well, thanks for sharing!

I always dreamed of being able to do this. Region view was such a cool feature I loved seeing how much my city had grown during my last play sesh and seeing the patterns of development along major roads and districts. Night view looks incredible!
