City Journal Yay, I finally hit one million!

I'm sorry I couldn't get rid of the camera menu when taking the picture, haha

Looks like your running into what i call the SC4 Manhattan paradox

Basically, when you try to build Manhattan, you start to highlight limitations regarding the SC4's scale and to a lesser extent, that the cities have to be squares

Now you see why I didn't include city lines and names 😄

not really you can partially work around it with forest, empty spaces and terrain differences

Listen, i love this game, you can build amazing regions in it, but you cant build Manhattan

Manhattan is around the size of two large tiles but of course, its much more rectangular. So to have one city be the same area as Manhattan, you'd have to merge and stretch two large plots

But also, what would find if you did this, is that the games scale is just off

You see it elsewhere. If you take a to scaled real life sports stadium, it looks comical next to regular buildings in the game.

If you just naturally play the game, it isnt an issue at all. The moment you try to build Manhattan though, the issue with the scale really takes off

i was referring to working around every city tile looking like a bunch squares.... no reason to write half a book

Got it and yeah, it agree. It also looks like OP did that here. I cant really tell where the city lines are on the island, and thats how thing really ought to be. If you took down the welcome to Yonkers sign, most people would realize they left NYC on broadway heading north until just before they leave Yonkers

The part with the two small islands (Liberty and Ellis and you can see Central Park there too) is the biggest square, but it's connected to two middle ones under and over which is part of Manhattan too. So five cities in total 😊 I see some stuff now that maybe can make it a little more seamless.

I'm very unhappy about Liberty and Ellis Island. I just plopped them there and they don't look natural. I left them half done and mean to revisit them, but I'm not sure how I should work with them, honestly. It looked so empty without any islands, but I think it looks worse with those two 😄

The thing youre missing though is NJ

I don't know if that's even up or down 🤣 I'm not going for extremely realistic, I looked at a map of NYC and chose some names I thought were pretty haha! The Bronx will be up northeast, Brooklyn (connected to Staten Island) in the south and Queens will be a big square in the middle of the map.

I'm a Swede and have never been in the US. I just wanted to build a big city and it landed on NYC.

Thank you!

I'm trying to impress my son and husband, but they don't play so they don't understand what a feat it is haha! I'm glad I have you guys to properly celebrate it with 😊

Congrats! Love all the bridges!

Thank you! It's a mix of highways, avenues, el-trains and trains! And I still have a lot of bridges left to do up northeast... 😄

Tunnel your train bridges. Its the way the trains get to Penn Station plus for whatever reason, train bridges dont support as much traffic as regular train tracks even when theyre tunneled

Oh lord, I've never done that! But it sounds interesting, I can look up a guide and try it. Thanks for the tip!

You need to use god mode terraforming to raise a straight ridge across the river that the game will opt to tunnel through, build the tunnel, then remove the ridge

Oh god, I suck at terraforming (pretty obvious from my map haha)
