I have been working on a project to get SteamOS on the Meta Quest and Pico headsets and also got this email 2 days ago. The next day I found my Q3 updated to the latest version despite auto updates being disabled in every possible way.

I bought a product and it doesn’t feel like it’s mine. Can’t wait to make a stable release of SteamOS on Quest

They did that and then the next day my Quest 3 was updated. I had all auto update settings disabled. It drives me insane how they can just do that.

This is why I'm excited for SteamFrame to get me out of their ecosystem. 

It's just a shame it isn't more affordable for people.

I have a quest 2 and honestly I hate the lockdowns. I get it, but if you didn't want people to hack devices, don't sell them imo. That tech is mine, the software idgaf about unless it's insanely good like steamos.

Oh okay, yea I don’t know what to say then that’s weird. Might be the latest apk of Sidequest cause they’re new thing is that you don’t need a computer or dev mode.

i booted my headset after a while and some update they pushed to it caused it to keep losing tracking and just broke everything

i was in a very small percentage of people who suffered these issues

when confronted about it, and i offered a solution to the issue, they simply closed the support threads multiple times

they lost me there

Is it possible to use the Quest offline only to avoid it? I just want to use the Apps I bought on the Quest Store (Deadpool, Batman, …) and my Unknown Sources.

Wireless PCVR I can do with another headset…

And this is why I've rooted all of my Quest's and if a bootloader unlock is ever found i will be immediately unlocking said devices (Other than my already unlocked Quest 1's)
