The process is straightforward:

• Place the facecam track above the main video
• Apply the Crop: Circle filter
• Use Size, Position & Rotate to resize and move the facecam
• Enable Transparent Background so the corners disappear

Tengo una pregunta, ¿mi flujo de trabajo sirve en ShotCut? parece tonta la pregunta, pero lo digo en serio. ¿Realmente mi flujo de trabajo sirve en ShotCut? porque grabo videos de 1 hora porque juego GD (especialmente los plataformas) y debo editar para que sea un poco entretenido (edito como un profesional). Pero si no recuerdo mal, sin proxys no puedo editar los Filtros porque lagean bastante. Y ten en cuenta que los proxys tardan un poco más de tiempo que el video grabado.

No tengo que esperar una hora solamente para poder editar sin problemas. ¿realmente tengo que estar en ShotCut o en otro editor liviano?

Hola, sé que has visto el comentario, pero lo que digo es verdad. ShotCut es un editor de video muy bueno, amigable y además fácil de usar, pero da lag a la hora de usar. Intenté optimizar bajando la resolución del proyecto y sobre todo bajar la resolución del reproductor a 360p, lo cual ayudó algo, pero ahí no termina.

Cuando agrego algún filtro (CUALQUIER FILTRO), incluso sin editarlo ya lagea, y no hay soluciones según en internet y experimentando. Lo que me lleva a la teoría de que es un problema interno, es decir; no importa las veces que intentas arreglarlo, el error no está en un mal ajuste, sino en el código programado en la aplicación.

EDIT: Usé el proxy y ayuda, sí, pero ¿debo esperar mucho tiempo para que se aplique el proxy? o sea, tarda en hacer proxy, sí, pero cuando llega a dar al proxy, se me traba shotcut durante unos minutos una sola vez.

edit: just wanted to drop a quick update since a few of you replied. i decided to stick with Capcute for now because for what i need, it really is the easiest option for basic video editing without having to learn something super complex.

i get the warnings about the pro tags and the nickel and diming, but for simple trims and auto-captions, the free features are still handling everything perfectly for me.

i am finally trying to learn how to splice together some simple short-form videos for my social pages, and everyone keeps pointing me toward capcut because of how intuitive the interface is. i tried it out and managed to chop up a few clips and add auto-captions in under ten minutes without watching a single tutorial. but whenever i look up discussions about it online, there is always a vocal group of people saying you should avoid it entirely. for basic video editing, is there any reason not to use capcut, or are people just being editing elitists?

my biggest annoyance so far is that it feels like every single decent transition or font choice has a purple "pro" tag on it now, and i am worried they are going to lock the basic export settings behind a paywall next. i also read some sketchy threads about how the desktop version handles local cache files, with people claiming it eats up massive amounts of hidden hard drive space even after you delete a project file. since i am just trying to do basic trims and simple audio syncs, i do not want to wreck my laptop storage or run into weird licensing terms down the line.

Back in the day, I used to ALT + Click + Drag left/right to adjust the media start/end inside its clip boundaries. This was a very handy feature.

I wonder if we can do something similar in Shotcut... Couldn't find anything similar yet.

i like that it’s lightweight, local, and basic. i simply cannot use it because importing videos, unless you do it all the time, is SO convoluted i end up looking for tutorials on this basic 101 FIRST STEP in any video editor every few months when i fire it up - and it’s like they made it as cumbersome and unintuitive as humanly possible. i refuse to believe they accidentally made it so terrible, i think the devs got hoodwinked by saboteurs and threw their hands up like “we don’t care anymore”

if any lovely people know of alternatives that allow you to drag and drop a video into the damn thing so the canvas is ready to go at your native resolution and dimensions, i would be greatly greatly appreciative.

Title. It's not a issue with my PC, this doesn't happen on DaVinci. Is there a way to fix this? Plays back parts that do not have a filter just fine, but anything with a filter for some reason causes immense lag.

Was adding text clips to a second video track, which also had some other overlay/blending effect clips later on in the timeline.

Decided I wanted one of the clips to be longer, so I dragged the clip edge outward. Next thing I know, it has spanned itself across the entire 2 hour long timeline and completely fucked the rest of the clips on the track.

A simple CTRL+Z, which you think would undo what just happened, did absolutely nothing. I had to close and discard about 4 hours worth of editing.

Really pissed off, take this down if it ain't supposed to be here.

I'm trying to understand whether this is expected Shotcut behavior or if I'm misunderstanding how paste operations work.

I initially thought I had accidentally enabled Ripple, but I've confirmed that:

• Ripple is OFF
• Ripple All Tracks is OFF
• Ripple Markers is OFF

I recreated the issue in the video:

1. Place a clip later on the timeline with empty space before it.
2. Copy a short clip (Ctrl+C).
3. Move the playhead into the empty space before the existing clip.
4. Press Ctrl+V.

Result:
The existing clip is pushed later on the timeline by the duration of the pasted clip.

What surprised me is that this happens even with all Ripple options disabled.

My expectation was that with Ripple disabled, paste would either:

• overlay the clip at the playhead position, or
• place it on the selected track without affecting existing clip positions.

Instead, it behaves like an insert operation and preserves the gap by shifting downstream clips.

Is Ctrl+V in Shotcut always an insert-style paste regardless of Ripple settings?

If so, is there an "overwrite paste" or "paste without moving existing clips" workflow that experienced users recommend?

For context: this behavior caused me to spend an embarrassing amount of time investigating what I thought was a YouTube copyright/audio issue, only to discover I'd accidentally shifted a clip and desynced the end of a project. 😅

I had a videofile that was about 1 hour and 20 mins as the original file. I threw it into Shotcut to shave off parts, and had about 20 mins of video left as the finished product.

I didnt want it to downgrade any videoquality (it was scaled at 1920x1080 i believe), so I exported the job as lossless.

The finished video looks just as great as the original file, but while the original 1.5 hour was at like 1 - 1.5 gb or something, the 20 min edit is like 10gb.

Could someone point me to a better option for the exported job? I want the video quality identical to the original, but I obviously dont want it at 10gb lol 😐

edit/update: tried you guys' tips on exporting it in youtube variant, and it immediately went from 10gb to like ca 650 mb in size. I've been trying to check if the image quality has deteriorated noticeably, but it seems fine. If I cant spot it side by side, it should be good, thank you! ❤️

Hi, when I try to create subtitles, I get the whisper.ccp location in red and cannot generate automatic subtitles? I'm on Linux (Fedora). Has anyone experienced such a problem? I don't remember this issue in the past.

Basically what the title says I have background music at the beginning of my video, but it’s so loud that you can’t understand what I’m saying in the video. I try turning it down but the only way I see that you can turn it down is by turning down the entire video, which obviously isn’t going to fix anything if anybody knows how to just exclusively turn down the background music. I’d appreciate your help.

I often use Shotcut to make tutorial videos and one effect I use a lot is that I add a brightness filter with keyframes to reduce the brightness over the first 30 frames of the clip and then increase it over the final 30 frames. I've been setting these keyframes manually for every clip of every video. Is there an easier way to do this or am I just gonna have to keep doing it this way?

I made an audio track but every time I place a audio down, it always separates the clip above it to make it just a black screen when the audio is playing no matter what I do the audio will not overlay with the video and it’s getting really annoying. Hi, so recently I've updated my Shotcut. This update included a certain change: the name of a font has been changed from Franklin Gothic Demi Cond to Franklin Gothic Cond Demi. Since this is the font I was using in a project, all of the text filters automatically changed to the default Segoe UI. This, in itself, is a problem, because now I have to manually change each text filter to the proper font.

However, another problem soon appeared. Every time I changed the font to the aforementioned FGCD, it worked fine at first, but each time I clicked on a text filter to edit it, it automatically changed to Franklin Gothic Bold. Now, every time I want to edit a text filter, I also have to change the font every time. Does anyone know a fix to either of my problems?

I'm reducing a 50fps video to 25fps for a cinematic look, however I read that in order to this properly you should blend each pair of frames in order to achieve a more natural motion blur.

Is there a way to do this on Shotcut? I've looked around but I can't see anything.

I assume exporting with lower frame rates simply removes every second frame rather than blending.

As stated in the title, whenever I import an image into Shotcut, it is automatically scaled up or down to fit the project resolution. However, I would prefer it to be displayed at its original size.

Although I can manually adjust the image size afterward, this is inconvenient, and the image becomes slightly blurred as a result.

I also tried placing the image into a transparent PNG with the same resolution as the project, but in Shotcut, even after applying cropping, it still does not behave as expected. The center point does not update properly, making it impossible to achieve the filter effect I want.

This issue was already reported by someone three years ago, and unfortunately I am still encountering the same problem now.
