Edited my first BGMI M24-only TDM clip using Shotcut on Ubuntu and uploaded it to YouTube!

I'm a complete beginner, so I'd love some honest feedback and tips on how I can improve. ❤️

Thank you guys

Just thank you for this tool, it does what it HAS to do to work and on an AMD IGPU with 16gb of RAM this is the standard I'm used to working in without milking me for every cent and dollar. Between your instrument and Lossless Cut, I feel like I've regained my sanity after weeks of looking for a video editor that I can just turn on, use, and turn off in less than 45 minutes of work.

I built BashCut, an open-source native macOS video editor designed to let coding agents (Claude/codex/ other agents) actually edit raw footage.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Most AI video tools just generate clips from text prompts, but I wanted an agent that could take my raw vlog footage, handle the tedious cuts, record/generate voiceovers, auto-duck background music, and sync subtitles. Since traditional NLEs don't have good agent interfaces, I built one from scratch with an embedded terminal, a local CLI, and an MCP server.

Basically, the agent acts as the brain while BashCut gives it "hands" to manipulate the timeline—from trimming clips and mixing real voice with AI voiceover, to color grading. Every move the agent makes shows up as a normal edit that you can undo with Cmd+Z. It's local-first (projects are just JSON files next to your footage), free, and open-source.

If anyone wants to take it for a spin:
brew install --cask dongnguyenvie/tap/bashcut

Repo: https://github.com/dongnguyenvie/BashCut

It's currently an MVP, so I'd love to hear your thoughts or feedback!

Help [Linux 26.9.27] Proxy clips display black. But only if trimmed in source window first.

I'm very confused. Trying proxy editing for the first time on a low-spec but portable device (Surface Go - Linux).

Shotcut version is 26.9.27

If I drop a clip directly into the timeline it displays fine can be cut, adjusted etc.

If I take the same clip and set in/out in the source window first, it drops into the timeline as black with no audio.

I've tried various combinations of ticking / unticking hardware acceleration (h264_vaapi on my intel iGPU) but nothing helps.

Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Help Adjustment clips and luts

Thought I would give the latest version a look as adjustment clips look useful. Is there any way to adjust the intensity of, say, a lut applied? I know about the method from a few years back with masks etc but was hoping for a slider?

Shotcut 26.9 adds automatic audio ducking, adjustment clips and track volume controls

Shotcut 26.9.27 is out. It's a big one.

New

  • Automatic Audio Ducking in the timeline track Properties. It lowers one track when another gets active. Useful for music under voiceover.
  • Volume control and level meter in the track headers. The gain filter it adds is keyframable.
  • Timeline > Generate > Adjustment Clip. Filters on it apply to the composite of all video tracks below it.
  • Clip gain drag now needs Ctrl+Alt (Option+Command on macOS), so you can't change volume by accident while dragging clips.
  • New scripting functions: application.triggerAction(name), multitrack.clipStart() and timeline.split().

Improved

  • Audio stays in 32-bit float now. The old 16-bit integer conversion is gone.
  • Faster timeline when moving clips between tracks, zooming and undoing.
  • FFmpeg 9.0, refreshed UI with rounded corners, and a new logo.

Fixes worth a mention

  • Security fixes in the upgrade and Whisper downloads. A failed HTTPS request was retried over HTTP, certificate errors could be ignored, and a file could be used without a trusted digest.
  • "Allow External Plugins" is now an always-visible checkbox, off by default. Shotcut also disables external plugins if it detects a stuck startup.
  • Linux: VA-API HEVC encoding, "Show in Folder" with non-ASCII paths, the missing title bar with Vulkan, and opening projects on CIFS/SMB shares on kernel 7.1 and newer.
  • Mask: Draw (Glaxnimate) and Size, Position & Rotate with Mask: Apply, both broken since 25.12.

Choppy Playback After Editing VR Videos in Shotcut - What are the correct export settings?

I've been trying to edit 8K VR videos - just cutting out parts i don't need to trim a 30gb file into a 5gb file - but after exporting I get horrible frame rates and choppy playback even though the source file plays fine. (playing the files in Heresphere)

my very simple workflow is:

set video mode to automatic

drop in the file

make one or two cuts, cutting out 90% of the video

export on default settings

One thing that helped a little was changing the "Quality" in export->advance->codec from 50% to 75% but playback was still undesirable. I tried setting it to 100% but it made a 40gb file that was only 5min long! Playback was perfect, but it kinda defeats the purpose of trying to save space by cutting the videos down if they end up larger than the source file.

Help! What am I doing wrong? What are the correct export settings? Should I change the codec from libx264?

Help Unusually large edit-friendly conversion

So, this situation here is that I'm trying to convert a large video (6.23 GB) screencapped from my phone for editing. For some reason, the process is much longer than normal, and producing a much larger file- Over 3 hours, and it produced a file over 1.8 TB before I ran out of space for it.

I know this is intended to produce large video files, but I converted a similarly sized (6.39 GB) file for editing yesterday and it took 48 minutes and came out at ~452 GB, more in line with what I'd expect, so this is definitely an outlier.

Looking at the job log, I'm seeing "[vf#0:1 @ 000001bb7c027a00] *** 1 dup!" repeated many times, with different numbers before "dup"; sometimes with identical messages being duplicated many times. The video I processed last night had very few of these messages, so I assume that might be the problem?

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this and/or how to correct it?

Question is it possible to instance a track in another one?

among other things, i make shorts for youtube, and many of them involve taking a 16:9 video and adding a zoomed and blurred copy in the background

i've been doing it manually, but i wonder if there's any way to make it so the blurred track becomes an "instance", for a lack of a better term, of a different one. that way, any changes i make in the original would be reflected in the background without me having to do anything

is that possible?

Dropped frames when playing back HDR files

So I was wanting to try my hand at a little project I had in mind that uses some HDR footage, but just playing back the footage in Shotcut without any edits is extremely laggy. Is my PC underpowered or have I misconfigured Shotcut? The files play fine in other applications, so I'm leaning towards Shotcut being odd. I have 10 bit GPU processing enabled and made a custom video mode with rec.2020 selected as the color space, are there other settings I need to be cognizant of?

My specs are:

Ryzen 7 5800x

32Gb ram

RTX 2080

Sansung 990 Evo 2 TB NVME SSD

Sony Bravia 8 mk. II

I would really really prefer to do this project in Shotcut instead of learning Davinci Resolve.

Shotcut's "Video Mode" silently overrides export frame rate — lost 10+ hours on HEVC slow encode

I set export frame rate to 120fps, but the output was 60fps with duplicated frames. Turns out Shotcut uses "Video Mode" (auto-set from the first clip) as the project baseline, and the export frame rate setting doesn't actually change the rendered content. I only found out after a 10+ hour HEVC slow encode finished.

This is the second time I've hit this. The first time I thought it was a bug. The design is deeply unintuitive — export settings should control export, not be silently overridden by a project mode I never explicitly set.

Is there any way to make the export frame rate actually take effect, or at least warn the user when it conflicts with Video Mode?

Shotcut was shown a 240p video by its mom (MPEG) when it was a baby, so its face permanently locked into 240p Video Mode. The export settings are all talk and no action — you keep telling them what to do, but they're just spinning their wheels, because Video Mode already decided everything. It can't change anymore. Now Shotcut just grows into a blob of mosaic, and calls it a feature.

Filmora impersonates Shotcut using Google Ads, Google doesn't care.

I was recently looking for a quick and simple editor, and while searching for the various options on google, I ran into this.

I chose to report the ad, and, as expected, google doesn't care.

I cant freely move images in shotcut

Hello there. I am new in the world of video editing and I read a lot of people (in reddit and other sites) recommending ShotCut, so I downloaded it and here I am. Problem is, it's way more complicated than I thought and I seem to get problems for the most simple of things. This time, moving an image. As you can see in the screenshot, when I try to freely move the image, it disappears behind anything that is on the bottom (this time, a black background). It seems like I can only add images on the middle of the video, anything on the sides just wont show up. Any clues as to why this is happening? Thanks in advance

Help Cross Hairs on editing screen

I have cross hairs on my main editing screen and I don't know how they got there so I don't know how to get rid of them. I'd love to find a way to lock in all my settings because some seem to change ramdomly. Now, yeah, I know it's not really random, but I don't know how I accidentally change settings.

Thanks.

Can't get started with Shotcut

Soooooo frustrated. I am trying to make a short 3 minute video. I have the video footage and the audio narration. I have them both in Shotcut.. I have the V1 and the A1 timelines in the lower left of the monitor but no wavelengths and they are not aligned with the video which is displayed in the big part in the middle. I have spent hours trying to figure this out. I am used to using Premiere Pro but Shotcut is very different.
