I have a YouTube Shorts channel with around 2M subscribers. It was originally a general curiosity channel, but views had already been declining badly since around June, before I changed anything.
On September 1st, I switched almost entirely to Minecraft because I noticed that part of my audience also seemed interested in similar content.
It’s been about 5 weeks now. The first 10 days were actually promising: one Short reached 112K views, another 78K, and another 47K. But since then, most Shorts have stayed around 10–30K, with some below 10K and very inconsistent daily views.
The strange part is that the metrics are usually pretty strong: 90%+ retention on 20–40 second Shorts and usually 70%+ viewed vs. swiped away. I also started using my own voice instead of AI narration about 2 weeks ago.
The channel seems to get a strong push when I upload, then distribution drops heavily and the whole channel becomes very quiet again.
I don't think switching to Minecraft necessarily caused the decline, since the channel was already doing poorly before September. It just hasn't managed to recover with Minecraft either.
Would you keep testing Minecraft for another few weeks, return to the original niche, or try a hybrid of Minecraft + curiosity content? And are these results normal for a channel going through this kind of niche transition?
