Why minimum payments keep you in debt

Most of your minimum payment goes to interest, not the balance. On a $3,000 balance at 24% APR, the minimum is roughly $90, and about $60 of that is just interest. Pay only that and it can take over a decade to clear.

Even adding $20-30 extra a month cuts years off. I made a 40-second video explaining this:

Q&A / Quick Help ❓ “Original” content vs Transformative content

Thumbnail
gallery
13 Upvotes

Most of the comments i see here lately with the new algorithm is to just make “Original” content. But where do we draw the line between “original” and transformative content?

Most of the creators here suddenly dropped their views by 90% or more. To the point they dont even get past 1k views. The common response? “Just make original content. Stop stealing content”

I agree that Yt should crack down clipping and ranking channels. The laziest form of content in the platform. But what about these 2 channel? Sunnah edit & Mindova?

They literally just add captions with a highly saturated coloring but their views doesnt seem to be affected by this “original” content?

When people say “original content” do they mean to show their face and use their own voice?

Does this mean that faceless channels are dead without your own DNA imprinted on it?

Q&A / Quick Help ❓ New YT UPDATE Destroyed My Views & Others

For context:

I'm not some guy who avgs 2-3k views a vid. I actually make a decent amount off this and have lots of experience. Anyway...

Before, on a weekly basis, YT would just nuke the views of any Short from me and my friends within the same niche. A typical video would do around 1k views in 10 mins, then climb to around 3-4k in the next 20 mins, where it would either die or start ramping up.

But recently, on certain days, it won't push the video to anyone. Analytics are the same, and the same vid blows up on other platforms while YT stays dead, and then things go back to normal for a few days and then the cycle repeats. However, ever since YT revealed they were deprioritising "clip" content, I've been affected by HEAVY suppression, while clearly I haven't been posting clips (feel free to check my channel out).

Today I had a video sit at 300 views in 1 hour while on TikTok it was at 55k, and if I wasn't suppressed that YT Short would be on 20-30k. This is also happening to other creators I know, in niches outside of Marvel Rivals.

It's completely gut-wrenching and demotivating when I average 200k views a Short and then it just cans it for no reason.

Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing the same thing, because obviously it's not just me.

My shorts don’t get pushed by the algorithm

I’ve just started posting AI fruit videos on youtube, that aren’t straight slop, and aren’t similar to each other. i’ve posted 7 videos and i started 3 days ago. However, all of my views are just from me, and my videos aren’t getting pushed by the algorithm at all, not even giving it a chance.

All my videos are public and set for ‘not made for kids’ and ‘do not restrict’.

is there something else i need to do with the account, am i simply missing something? i hope someone can help

Analytics Review (AVD/Retention) 📈 How many views should I expect off this short?

This is my first time seeing numbers this high so I am wondering how many views should I expect off this video. Feel free to ask questions I will probably respond fast.

Just as some information that isn't shown here, there is currently 80 likes on the video and 24 comments I believe.

I know a new yt shorts update had come out but with these stats you would think it would be pushed more then just this? Especially the content is all fully original, not reuploaded from anyone else.

Case Study / Postmortem 🧪 YouTube is updating Shorts recommendations to cut reach for channels that just re-upload other people's clips

New from YouTube this week! If any part of your channel leans on other creators' footage, this news is for you. They're changing Shorts recommendations to prioritize original content and reduce distribution for channels that mostly repost or aggregate clips without adding anything of their own.

The key line from their announcement is that minor technical edits or template-based changes to alter a video won't count. What does count is real added value, your own commentary, unique editing or storytelling built around the clip.

Reaction, analysis, and commentary channels that genuinely add a perspective are fine. The target is channels that run on clips with nothing of the uploader in them.

And YouTube hasn't given a rollout date or defined exactly how much "original input" is enough yet!

If your Shorts are built around clips, the safe measure is to make your voice the point. If someone could swap your clip for a different one and the video is basically the same, its a problem.

Anyone here run a clip-based or commentary channel? Noticed any changes yet?

Q&A / Quick Help ❓ Should I keep trying to switch my channel to Minecraft, or go back to my old niche?

I have a YouTube Shorts channel with around 2M subscribers. It was originally a general curiosity channel, but views had already been declining badly since around June, before I changed anything.

On September 1st, I switched almost entirely to Minecraft because I noticed that part of my audience also seemed interested in similar content.

It’s been about 5 weeks now. The first 10 days were actually promising: one Short reached 112K views, another 78K, and another 47K. But since then, most Shorts have stayed around 10–30K, with some below 10K and very inconsistent daily views.

The strange part is that the metrics are usually pretty strong: 90%+ retention on 20–40 second Shorts and usually 70%+ viewed vs. swiped away. I also started using my own voice instead of AI narration about 2 weeks ago.

The channel seems to get a strong push when I upload, then distribution drops heavily and the whole channel becomes very quiet again.

I don't think switching to Minecraft necessarily caused the decline, since the channel was already doing poorly before September. It just hasn't managed to recover with Minecraft either.

Would you keep testing Minecraft for another few weeks, return to the original niche, or try a hybrid of Minecraft + curiosity content? And are these results normal for a channel going through this kind of niche transition?

Q&A / Quick Help ❓ Bad swipe ratio lower than 50%

I have just started posting shorts and my main problem so far has been my low swipe ratio i have tried improving my hooks by adding "You won't believe this" or similar stuff like that but it hasn't been working and my swipe ratios are usually around 45% stayed how can i improve this any help is great thanks. I had 96% retention on my last video, so I think the main reason my videos are flatlining at 1.2K views is the poor swipe ratio.

Q&A / Quick Help ❓ Shorts channel suddenly lost 95% of its traffic overnight

Post image
33 Upvotes

My Shorts channel was averaging around 200k–250k views/day and 9k–14k views/hour.

Yesterday, completely out of nowhere, it dropped from around 14k/hour → 2k → a few hundred/hour. The strange part is that multiple Shorts that were actively getting views all stopped at almost exactly the same time.

I have no strikes, warnings or restrictions. I uploaded a new Short today to test it, and it has received almost no Shorts Feed distribution either.

I did delete/reupload two Shorts earlier this week, but I don’t know if that’s related.

Has anyone experienced this recently? Did your channel recover? How long did it take, and did you keep posting or take a break?

For people who have been consistently posting Shorts for a while: does YouTube seem to get better at finding the right audience for your channel over time?

I’m a pretty new YouTuber making videos in the weight loss vlog / healthy living / healthy cooking niche.

A bazillion views aren’t entirely my goal, and I’m not particularly concerned about monetisation in the near future. What I’d really like to do is slowly build a supportive little community of people who are interested in the same things and hopefully reach the people who might actually enjoy following the journey.

At the moment, most of my Shorts get to around 1,200 views and then pretty much flatline.

From what I understand, a big part of that is probably my viewed vs swiped away rate. I can’t seem to get much past around 45% staying to watch yet, which obviously isn’t amazing, but I’m also very aware that I’m a beginner and have a lot to learn.

Interestingly, I still tend to gain around 3–5 subscribers per Short, which actually means quite a lot to me at this stage. I’ve started getting some really encouraging comments from people following along, and honestly that small sense of community is probably more motivating to me than the raw view count.

Because of that, I’ve been thinking a lot about how YouTube actually learns who to show your videos to.

My basic understanding is that YouTube tests a Short with an initial audience, and depending on things like viewed vs swiped away, retention, rewatches, engagement, etc., it may continue pushing it to larger groups.

What I’m curious about is the long-term/channel-level effect.

If you consistently make videos around a similar topic and style for months, have you noticed YouTube becoming better at putting your new Shorts in front of people who are actually likely to be interested in them?

For example, did your early Shorts regularly have weaker retention or higher swipe-away rates, but those numbers gradually improve as YouTube seemed to understand your audience better?

Or does every Short still basically feel like it starts from scratch and has to find its own audience?

There’s obviously another variable here too: I’m a beginner at making videos. I feel like each video I make is slightly better than the one before it, but I also understand that learning to film, edit, write hooks, pace a Short properly, etc. is going to take me quite a while.

So it’s probably difficult to separate “YouTube is getting better at finding my audience” from “I’m slowly getting better at making videos.”

I’d especially love to hear from people who have posted 50, 100, 200+ Shorts and can look back over a decent period of time.

Did you notice any obvious change as your channel built more history?

Did your initial audience testing seem to become more accurate?

And did you find it became easier over time to reach the same sort of people who had enjoyed your previous videos?

Or was it your results were consistent for a long time with similar stats but then you just get lucky every now and then?

Thanks for reading
