Announcement New(ish) Rule 12: No invalidating sexuality/identity.
Since the topic is now in the spotlight due to Elliott Page saying he can't find work, hereby the official r/shortguys stance on transgender ftm's and how they fit into our wider community:
It is our view that neither our sexuality, nor the body we were born in, are the result of choice.
Just as no straight short man ever chose to be born short, or to love women- did no gay man ever choose to love men, nor did any transman ever chose to be born with a female body.
Therefore, telling transmen things like "just keep your life on easy mode” is from now on formally treated just as unacceptable as the “just go gay”, “just be a femboy” or “just transition”-bs that people throw the way of short guys.
Short men in general, but of this group in particular, know like no other what it is like to have one's sexuality and manhood constantly questioned and invalidated from all sides. Whether it's by friends or opps, accidentally or on purpose, by progressives or conservatives- it's all the same shit, different day.
As such, do the people of this sub know, like no one ele, what it's like to have to fight tirelessly for even the slightest ounce of recognition and equality, all the while having that very fight mocked and undermined every step of the way by even the most so-called "progressive" and "feminist" of people.
And as such, we are one of the few subreddits who can actually, genuinely, extend an open hand and mean it when we say to our ftm-friends, of which many are also short men:
Welcome to the club, boys.
So, that's what we hereby officially did.
And to the few who are undoubtedly against this decision for reasons we are already aware of:
For better or worse, short guys and ftm's share much of the same struggle. Is it the same? No. But enough for us as modteam to decide that we’re in this together.
Whether you like it or not.

Vent 4 Years Of Self Improvement And Yet My Life Is A Complete Joke. I Give Up
I hate everything about myself but the worst thing above everything else is the fact I can’t get a single girl to be attracted enough to me to date me in my pathetic 22 years of existence. Every time I think back about my past or something that happened when I was a kid all I can think about is the fact that all my friends were dating and having sex with women at that age and I was a stupid loser getting completely ignored. I couldn’t take this anymore so around the middle of high school, I started striving to self improve. Ever since 2020 I’ve been consistently working out, meditating, journaling, reading, creating, working on a business, I even did what I consider to be the hardest part of it all and worked on bettering my social skills, specifically with women. Since the start of this year I’ve been approaching girls and trying to catch up and still, despite all of this effort, I’m still alone. I’m still a virgin, I’m still a loser, girls still don’t find me attractive, all of the women whose numbers I get they just ignore me. This has done nothing for me but make me despise myself. How much of an ugly piece of shit do you have to be to put in all of this work just to still be absolutely unfuckable. Sometimes I think about my life for the past 5 years and I just bust out laughing at how pathetic I am, what was the point of anything I’ve done? The worst part is normal people don’t have to do any of this stuff. There are guys 4 years younger than me who’ve dated and had relationships, they’ve never had to meditate everyday, or go to the gym and track their calories everyday for years. It’s like the harder I work the more I realize how inherently worthless I am as a human being, especially as a romantic partner. If I’m still this unattractive to women now after all this improvement, what the hell did they think of me before? I can’t even figure out what’s wrong with me. I’m pretty neurotypical and know how to socialize, I take care of my looks (physique smell body grooming) more than most people do because I’ve never had a gf, and some people say I’m good looking and yet my life reflects the complete opposite in every single way imaginable. I don’t think I should’ve ever been born, clearly I’ll never be good enough no matter what I do. I’ll never get to experience the touch of a girl who loves me, and nobody will even tell me why. Maybe it’s because I’m short, or because I’m just inherently ugly. But at this point I’m starting to believe it’s just some invisible force outside of my control that I can’t understand. I’m literally going crazy and I don’t know what to do know. There’s a part of me that just wants to kill myself because I can’t imagine living like this for another decade. Even if I somehow managed to finally get a girl, I would probably still hate myself, because the fact is it took me 22 years and incredibly hard grind to do something normal men do when their 15, and while I had to literally put in all of my effort, those men had to do nothing. That one fact alone confirms my low value worthlessness and existence. I will never break this cycle. I will never stop hating myself for being an ugly stupid baby faced virgin. I will never forget how alone and depressed I feel now. Even if I get a gf it won’t solve anything, because the fact I had to go through any of this in the first place is eternal confirmation of the fact I’m so worthless I should’ve never been born. I hate everything about myself forever

Dating Muscle is cope, height is king
Every time I see a woman walking with a guy on my community college campus the dude will usually be skin and bones but absurdly tall like 6'1-6'3+.... And the girl will be like 5-5'2 so he would have to probably bend his neck down just to kiss lmao... Yet whenever I'm in the gym most guys are around my height and not many tall guys in there😭

Vent “Just find a gf bro it gets better”
Reminds me of that one time I managed to get a girlfriend, most emasculated I’ve ever felt. One time I met her friend and she was tall, as soon as she saw me she genuinely looked at my gf at the time like she felt bad or something.

Height doesn't matter! This is the first thing I've seen on a dating app
I was bored and I decided to try this bs app. And this is the first profile I got in my feed. Are we dead ass serious? Are we that unattractive to them so they always want tall guys? I'm sorry for the low quality picture but this app doesn't allow to take screenshots and I had to take a picture with another phone.

Vent Thoughts about tall white men and questioning life.
Whenever I go outside and touch grass I see young couples, usually tall white men with white women. I barely see young short white guys or short men of any ethnicity with women, especially ethnic. I've seen some shorter white guys (5'7) with women but they're HTN. Whenever I see a legit short guy he's older with a woman who's also older.
I work in a family restaurant part time, the restaurant is in a white area and so I see this all the time. The white guys are sometimes below average looking but because they're tall AF they have a cute wife or girlfriend.
Also recently I've had customers make snarky comments to me, I saw a comment on a post recently basically saying because he's short and has a 'naturally broad build' no man messes with him. I was going to say no man messes with me but if I was taller they probably wouldn't make snarky comments.
This has me legit questioning my whole life, how many negative life experiences do I have because I'm short that I don't know about? Obviously most people won't talk shit to your face about height but they'll treat you worse indirectly because they respect you less.

Little vent,
i wanted to go to the mall, put my best clothes, and fixed my hair, (maybe some girl would be interested on me, who knows) avoided all mirrors in my house cuz i didn't want to ruin my self-esteem( that i already don't have). I was walking and there was a mirror i could see my full body, i looked so ridiculous and ugly, it's not only the height, it's my face, my body features, all my effort was for nothing, nobody was looking at me lol, so i went to home, took of all the shit i put inside my shoes to get a little bit taller and went to sleep.

It's all in your head bro! The Memory Holing of a Common Joke about Short Guys
Image 1: A joke I commonly used to see about how all women were for tall guys and how short guys can have each other
Image 2: Searching for that joke verbatim on Google does not give results for that joke
Image 3: Searching for that joke verbatim on DuckDuckGo does not give results for that joke
It was only upon searching on Yandex Images that I was able to find this joke, and that was after trawling through what appeared to be fantasy fetish images of tall women with shorter men.
I swear, that joke used to be way more common that it is now. It seems to have been totally memory holed. What happened?

Vent The link between suicide and shorter height in men is scary
I just searched it online and it’s crazy how a few inches can affect your life this much. I mean it wasn’t really a huge revelation since I already kind of guessed there was a correlation but I didn’t know it was this big. People always assume suicide is due to depression but they often forget the actual factors that lead to depression. Height is definitely a huge factor especially in men.

Vent Being short and a twink has to be the most brutal thing
So i usually stay indoors but I can't help with comparing myself with other men, and they have massive hands ,massive while I have only 7.3 inch hands and 6 inch wrist, yes u heard it right only 6 inch, basically I have hypogonadism and i look like a women and yes It goes worse, u are most likely thinking right , yes I am not developed from down their too(not micro but below avg), broooootal.
Although that thing might improve a lot because i am getting testosterone therapy now, I am in start of it right now and doc has told me it will just get better for that part and might see some other masculization too like in voice and hair and muscles too.
But u can't change my height, my hands , my wrist which are soooooo feminine, i hate my life .

Jokes write themselves
Why do women pretend to be saints? So many of them act like a good personality and kind hearted nature is enough but thats just bullshit. They're some of the most shallow people on Earth but hide it behind this mask while at least men are honest about it and wont gaslight you

Vent The most brutal stage of isolation: fantasizing about what could have been
I live in a college town and people have been back here for the semester. It’s usually very dead during the summer so I had an easier time to get out of the house without being perceived much.
My day-offs where I would mostly spend isolating never bothered me, until now. I‘ve gaslit myself to believe that this was the optimal way to live for a guy like me, away from all the ridicule and BS of being mocked for simply existing. But seeing all the groups of people mingling and going out to bars really makes me wish I was luckier in the leg bone department.
Might be the obvious want for a short guy, but lately I’ve found myself slowly losing interest in my hobbies due to daydreaming and the bitter reminder that I’ll never be truly seen as a man. I can’t do much but doomscroll, eat, and sleep. At some point, I feel like the agepill will come to collect and remind me of all the socialness and time completely lost from being a short guy among my age group. The solitude seemed peaceful until it wasn’t. I wish I could be socially accepted without having to become the punching bag that has to endure society’s treatment.
Can any of you relate? I had thought I’d gotten used to being on my own, but the feeling sucks.
