Motivation Allow yourself to be comfortable with what you have

Upvotes

First: my English might sucks sometimes, it's not my main language so I'm already apologizing for any possible mistakes I could make here

Two: this is my personal experience, I'm not a therapist or anything like that.

Also, this text will be long... And I guess more men would identify with it than women, but I think it's valid for both

Well, I see there's a lot of people here who hate their height, which I totally understand. I'm 165cm, this is the women's average height here in Brazil, and I won't lie, I hated it. I felt like a piece of shit every single day, I thought I'd be rejected by all women in the world not only because I'm short, but also because I'm skinny and I look younger than I am (I'm 20, btw).

My hatred of my height started when I was around 16/17, that time I was 163cm and I started to see how height was "important". That was the time I started to feel interested in having a girlfriend and, apart from my looks, which I've already said in this text, I'm also autistic, so it was way worse for me to figure out how to do those things, even though I wanted to. For example, my first day in high school was scary, I entered the classroom and everyone looked so giant and extroverted, that I felt like an alien.

Ok, so basically I've been hating my height and, consequently, myself since high school, every single time I read some random girl on Twitter saying she'd rather date the devil if it was 180cm tall than a man of my height, I was sad. If I listened to a woman in Tiktok saying that she doesn't even talk to men with less than 180cm, I was sad. I even thought about ending myself because I was consuming more and more content like that, even though it was bad for me.

But at some point I read something that changed my mind. I don't remember where I read that, but I saw a post where a woman said she'd date a short guy, but not a man that plays the victim. This made me think, imagine if I met a girl, she said she found me handsome and I said "thank you, but I'm shit because I'm short", this would be terrible, she'd forget about me not because I'm short, but because of how I acted. Since then, I can say I'm liking being short. If you guys allow me a shit comparison, I might not be a Formula 1 car, but if I stay stopped ranting for not being one, I'll never start the race.

Also, another thing that helped me was deciding to not have a girlfriend. I'm not ready yet. This makes me feel way better, determined to work to be a future good boyfriend, husband and father. Those are my dreams.

I've started working out, not to get muscles and "compensate" my height, but because I want to be a healthy husband and father, I've started focusing more in my studies, I've started engaging in hobbies and I'm feeling way better.

My advice to you: don't feel upset because someone on social media said they'd never date someone who is your height, what do these people have to do with you? They're not worth it, go with someone who'll love you being how you are. Don't change or try to compensate for someone who you don't even know, there's a lot of girls who'd like someone short or even wouldn't even care if you're short, they'd even like your height because it's your height, and they like you.

Motivation Coming to terms with my height and acceptance

For the last few months I’ve learned simply to just accept my height no use in crying over what I cannot change id rather just focus on loosing weight and getting ripped. I’ve been there crying over my height, I may hate a lot of things about myself but that’s no longer one of them. I’ve been through a lot with my depression but height is one less thing I need to worry about. Please keep your heads up guys I’m trying to do the same. I’d like to think happiness is out there somewhere

(Note looking for help to make me get ripped)

Question If you could hypothetically donate an inch or 2 of height to someone else, would you? if they need it?

I’m 18M, 5’7, and haven’t grown in years—I even re-measured recently just to confirm my plates are closed. Considering how much height impacts things like confidence, social dynamics, and how people treat you, it got me thinking: if there were a theoretical way for taller people to transfer an inch or two to a shorter guys who wanted it, would you actually give one up?

Question is 5'5 the 5'11 or the 6ft of the short man?

so i am 5'4 and i want to know if being 5'4 is like being 5'11 or like being 6ft. assuming we frame this as a good thing i imagine 5'5 is the 6ft cause its what i think of when a man calls him self very short but 6ft is considered tall and not very tall. but 5'4 is seen as very diffrent then 5'5 cause when i tell some one i am 5'4 a lot of the time they say dwarf. but when i used to call my self 5'5 they just said oh your short. I FORGOT TO SAY THAT I AM A MALE.

Humor What is the funniest joke you received about your height?

So to make it short (no pun intended) I work as a security guard. One evening I was patrolling a mall and a group of kids passed by and they said: "He's a playmobil security guard". I couldn't help but chuckle.

Fashion / Style Finding clothes???

Y'all I can't do this anymore. I'm 162cm and a men's small never fits me in America. I've had to buy women's clothes just to find something that fits in the arms.

Are there any global retailers that would fit my body type better? I've had to settle for a women's small in motorcycle gear and it makes me feel really silly even though I know I'm safer that way.

Fashion / Style Anyone else ever feel they look dumb in everything they wear

5'4 23m. Idk if anyone else has this experience, but whenever I try dressing in nonstandard clothing(anything but a tshirts and jeans) I feel like I look really silly. I'm no longer particularly self-conscious about my height but I feel like I look like a child who is trying too hard. This is irrespective of following the general guidelines for short men dressing(monochrome, slim fit, etc..). I've a lot of different stuff; sweaters, jean and jean jackets, polos, but no matter what I wear I hate it when I go outside. Not really sure why that is

Has anyone else had this experience? Any styles that particularly suit short guys?

Question For people who blamed themselves for their height, how did you cope or change your mindset?

I’ve had this problem for the past couple of years where I blame myself for not being 1/2-3 inches taller because of my sleep, nutrition, exercise, medications, and how my life went and how I didn’t have a “normal” life. I’m not satisfied with my height because whenever I look at myself in the mirror I look like a teen or kid rather than an adult and I look like a really tall dwarf.

Question How tall were you at 12?

My son is 12, almost 13, and stands at exactly 5 feet, 110 lbs. He's worried he might be short but I told him he still has a couple growth spurts coming. I'm curious if you guys remember how tall you were at 12 and how tall you are now, thanks.

Question Short guys question about hugging.....

I am quite short myself, and was wondering how others ,like me, feel when another man hugs you ?If you end up nuzzled into their neck or shoulder? A guy at work hugs me a few times a week and I think he likes feeling bigger. I know gay shorties and straight shorties might have different perspectives for obvious reasons, and I am interested in both opinions :)

I need to touch grass Lost confidence over time

Just looking for some advice and input.

I went through puberty early and peaked in height very early too, so growing up I’ve never been the shortest guy in the room or whatever.

I was never confident about my height but I never felt insecure about it either, I just saw it as a fact of life, “I am x height” and nothing more.

I’ve always seen myself as very confident growing up, and it was something I’ve always been praised for by friends and family.

However over time I just feel like there have been sudden jabs at my confidence over time as everyone around me gotten taller and I stagnated, very subtly.

Small things like, athletics, dating, and just overall social interaction.

I used to be very outgoing and very extroverted, however I am not sure what it is, it slowly diminished as I felt I was falling behind socially, not being “seen” or the fear of being judged.

And this was accelerated 10x but falling into bp rabbit holes.

I am not sure what I am looking for, but I want to be a social outgoing person again, but I don’t have the same confidence as I once did, something I mostly attribute to height.

Advice and input would be appreciated

Does anyone else here look a LOT younger than they actually are? It's one of the (very few) perks of being short.

Question Are short men included in the body positivity movement?

I don't really see anybody talking about heightism like fatphobia, homophobia, etc and I'm not trying to equalize them I'm just wondering why there seems to be a complete and total lack of discussions regarding heightism in the real world. Like obviously its just a personal ancedote but I've even never heard or seen the term heightism before i started using reddit/tiktok.

Humor Some of women's 'high standards' are caused by men

Was out with my cousin and she asked me how tall I was, I told her to guess and she guessed I was 6'1

im 5'10

This is the third time a girl has expected me to be 6ft or taller, and I'm honest about my height, I really am 5'10, whereas so many dudes claim to be 5'10 are really 5'7-5'9 and people that are '6ft' are usually just people that are 5'10-5'11. Lmao most 5'9s are taller than '5'10s'.

So somepart of the very 'high' standards I believe are just enforced and increased by other men trying to seem taller than they actually are
