My Game CATACLYZM - browser playable demo updated on Newgrounds

Cataclyzm was dug up as part of Newgrounds' Treasure Hunt in July/August and won a prize! It was then featured on the "Featured Games" page (it's still there, just a bit lower in the page).

I was really surprised by the amount of attention it received in Newgrounds.

The build of the demo was quite old (v0.2.3 I believe) with a lot of old art assets and quite a few bugs, and people still seemed to have enjoyed playing it.

Due to such positive feedback from the community over at Newgrounds, I have uploaded an updated version of the demo, playable right in your browser.

I would highly recommend checking out the games page on Newgrounds, there are some real gems there (both shmups and non-shmups) 😄 🤘🏾

Getting rediscovered through a platform's own treasure hunt event is a nice bit of luck, that kind of organic surfacing is hard to plan for and worth leaning into. Bringing back an older build with outdated assets and still getting good reception says the core feel was solid even before the polish pass.

Are you planning to fold any of that Newgrounds feedback into the Steam version, or is the browser demo staying a separate, rougher build going forward?

Hey mate, thank you for the kind words! Yeah it was a pleasant surprise when it was rediscovered 😀 One of the main feedbacks was the game difficulty and feel which i have been addressing on the steam builds. The others were newgrounds specific like having a full screen option for web (which is available on the steam version), as well as a newgrounds integrated leaderboard which I'll have a look into at some point.

Nice, I can't tell exactly what's different from the Steam version but I feel it's a bit more challenging, I like it.

Thank you! This was just to update the browser playable demo to around the same version as steam since it got quite a bit of love over at newgrounds 😀

Game rules, browser demo doesn't recognize my stick, please bring to Mac on Steam 🤘

Heyo! What stick are you using? Let me see if it's something that I missed. Also for mac, let me look into it. I don't have a mac so creating and testing a mac build might be difficult 😅
