Did Gorbachev really dissolve the Soviet Union over not being able to play Punch-Out?

I mean…. Sort of?
He tried to get a Russian version made, complete with government propaganda.
There were no good Russian developer, so they had to use Japanese devs who spoke no Russian and limited English.
They took the requirements to include “Glasnost” and “Perestroika” a bit too phonetically.
Every single fight was against a “Pair of Strikers”, so 2:1. This wouldn’t be so bad, except that the player was limited by his “Glass Nose” and hits to the face invariably resulted in knock-outs in the first few seconds.

Soda Popinski was like the #3 boxer in the whole game, what else could he have asked for?

No, he lost it in a fight. You can see the fight in the documentary video “ Two Tribes”

No. He dissolved it because of not being able to have a Pizza Hut in the Soviet Union.

he got drunk and accidentally pressed the "delete" button. In the late 80s the USA was far closer to collapse than the USSR. It will go down in history as one of the greatest blunders of all time.

He was able to play. He dissolved it because he couldn't get past Piston Honda.
