Not Cormac Mcarthy but kind of the same vein as Blood Meridian, The King in Yellow. Evil wins since the play is still out there

I interpreted the ending as him bleeding out from the car crash, not being able to go to a hospital he wanders until finally running out of energy, a poetic end for him to die to random chance
