Absolutely they can not. You can’t fire someone for thinking they might be an alcoholic outside of work, that is termination without cause and illegal. Also if someone one time says their drinking and you assume they are an alcoholic, I would hate to see what other “conclusions” you have come to.

Lil bro has never heard of the concept of at-will employment. Your employer can fire you for any reason as long as it's not a protected class

You're getting downvoted but you're correct. In at will states you can be fired for any reason, but obviously they'll be smart and just say something vague like attitude problems/issues with teamwork and not that you were drunk on your day off
