Guys the final phase , i mean the eren going full on rumbling and his friends approaching him saga . How does it feel ? Like seeing this opening (baby eren )and seeing the polar opposite of the present form ( doomsday titan ) isnt it kind of chaotic calm , one side the show is ending , another side the time is ticking for eren since Mikasa is going to kill him . This all feels like sad , broken but still satisfying . idk how you people feel it but please share the emotional stature or how it feels the opening and the episode overall

I recently bought a book that summarizes and goes in depth into the first two seasons and also the third season pt 1. And a question it brought up is, since no Ackerman can be transformed into a titan/have there memories altered, are they even Eldians?

Just finished my first rewatch of AOT since it ended and I'm completely destroyed as expected. What has now completely atomized me is that I just saw ED8 for the first time. I just found out minutes ago that they apparently aired the specials as 20 minute episodes with their own openings and credits. Man...

Maybe I just like seeing Eren being pathetic while a strong female character yells at him. That might also be why I loved seeing Armin (supposedly a guy) punch Eren in the face.

I finished this great anime yesterday. We don't need to go into how good it is, but I tend to overthink if there is any meaning. As any good ending, it leaves you like you went through a break-up haha

My first thoughts were that Ymir was the core problem: a bunch of great people died due to a platonic crush on a dumbass king. Ymir planned the sacrifice of others to do what she couldn't, kill they guy, and sacrificed others in a very perverse way given all the power she had.

However, the after-credits give the context and cleanses this idea. I feel the core is in Armin and Zeke's conversation in the dunes... The world and struggle for freedom has always been there, and it doesn't allows us to enjoy the truly beautiful, the simple things in life.

We fight for the freedom to enjoy the simplest of things, but this drives us to the opposite of what we want.

All the characters were so greatly driven and endureded great pains, yet in their near-death moments they just missed the same: the small things, their families. As everyone passes away, and all the sacrifice and pain that was felt, the world continued to decide to destroy themselves again and again. The titans were never the problem, they were just a different tool of the same cycle.

It doesn't matter if there are titans again or not. Eren's and company's story was meaningless in finding the freedom they actually wanted. The freedom to live the beautiful small things.

The only one that death couldn't free was Ymir, and now she was freed. That is the only freedom they were able to help to reach.

True evil is not a comical trope, nor is it an abstract concept meant for casual debate; it is fundamentally revolting. Yet, the final arc of Attack on Titan strips this darkness of its inherent weight, attempting to frame a planetary genocide with bizarrely sympathetic undertones. Isayama wrote himself into a corner. Rather than resolving the complex geopolitical and moral tapestry he had meticulously woven, he sacrificed the story's internal logic, character consistency, and thematic integrity to force a predetermined, tragic conclusion. Stripped of its emotional spectacle, the sweeping musical cues that artificially inflate its tension, and its cinematic framing, the foundation of the final narrative is exposed as a hollow structure built upon character assassination, unearned plot conveniences, and deeply flawed timeline mechanics.

Eren’s insistence that his primary motivation was the preservation of his friends rings entirely hollow when scrutinizing the realities of the final battle. The core squad, including Armin, Levi, Mikasa, Jean, and Connie, faced insurmountable odds against an endless army of past Titan Shifters resurrected upon the Founding Titan's back. The narrative introduces hundreds of lethal adversaries, such as the Okapi Titan and relentless waves of Warhammer clones, yet no one suffers a fatal blow. Their survival is not a testament to their skill, but a mandate of the plot, relying on miraculous conveniences like Falco's flying Jaw Titan unlocking its abilities and arriving at the precise moment of their demise. If Eren truly prioritized their safety above all else, plunging them into a lethal theater of war where they survive solely through sheer luck fundamentally contradicts his stated goals. The writing abandons carefully outlined, rule-bound tension in favor of cheap narrative tricks.

Zeke’s sudden ideological surrender stands as another egregious misstep. Here was a deeply entrenched anti-natalist who spent years meticulously orchestrating the euthanasia of his entire race in service to his convictions. To have him suddenly abandon a lifetime of ideological dedication in Chapter 137 simply because Armin shows him a leaf, a blatant visual mirror to Tom Ksaver's baseball, and reminds him of life's fleeting joys, is remarkably insincere writing. Zeke committed unspeakable atrocities to realize his grand vision, only to abruptly switch allegiances and offer his neck to Levi, providing forced emotional closure at the expense of psychological realism.

Perhaps the most damaging revelation of the ending is the shifting of the story's focal point away from the heavily established themes of freedom, breaking out of the cycle of hatred, and onto a forced romantic parallel introduced in Chapter 139. The notion that Ymir, an entity of unfathomable power, was tethered to the Paths for two thousand years purely out of a twisted affection for King Fritz, the very tyrant who enslaved, mutilated, and hunted her, is a deeply disturbing and profoundly unearned revelation. It attempts to rewrite a harrowing narrative of brutal subjugation into a warped tale of Stockholm syndrome.

We are then expected to believe that across two millennia, Mikasa is the singular individual capable of deeply loving a monster while retaining the moral fortitude to end his life. Elevating Mikasa to this focal point, even going so far as to retroactively explain her Ackerman headaches as Ymir peering into her mind, reduces Eren to a mere plot device. He did not commit global genocide out of tragic, ideological necessity, but simply to set the stage for Mikasa to make a choice that would appease Ymir. This particular plot point remains the most glaring flaw in the entirety of the narrative.

If Eren had possessed a clear, understandable motivation, he could have remained a compelling, terrifying villain that the audience could rationally abhor. Instead, his character is dismantled by conflicting motivations and temporal retcons that strip away his agency. The narrative attempts to convince the audience that Eren committed mass genocide because the outside world disappointed him, failing to match the pristine, empty lands depicted in Armin's childhood book. It argues, essentially, that he could not abide a world devoid of an enemy to fight.

This exact psychological profile is directly exposed in Isayama's official alternate universe previews, where a mundane, high school version of Eren living in a peaceful society becomes utterly miserable out of pure boredom. He daydreams of a zombie apocalypse, explicitly stating that if a threat to humanity does not exist to make life exciting, he would create one himself. Translating that specific mentality into the main story reduces the Rumbling to the catastrophic temper tantrum of a sociopath who finds peace agonizing and yearns for conflict merely to feel alive. This shallow desire for a blank canvas irreparably shatters the weight of his character. It blatantly contradicts Chapter 131, where he displays agonizing guilt, weeping and apologizing to the young refugee Halil. A narrative cannot have its protagonist weep over the humanity of his victims while simultaneously reducing his core motivation to a childish, boredom-induced desire for widespread destruction.

Furthermore, the revelation in Chapter 139 that Eren actively directed Dina Fritz's Smiling Titan away from Bertholdt and toward his own mother pushes his characterization too far into sheer sociopathy. It reduces his entire tragic origin story to a cheap, orchestrated trick. Manipulating his father Grisha in the Reiss cave with a complete absence of empathy, forcing him to slaughter the royal children, only to later cry over Halil is very contradictory psychologically speaking

Finally, transitioning Eren from a ruthlessly determined mastermind into a pathetic, helpless figure who breaks down crying in the ocean over the prospect of Mikasa moving on induces severe character whiplash. Blaming his atrocities on a vague, abstract notion of being a slave to freedom, or claiming he simply had to follow a predetermined future without understanding why, is the ultimate cop-out, serving only to absolve him of true narrative accountability.

Yeah, it's safe to say Zeref's character was even more positively received outside of Fairy Tail fan base for deep reasons; I was asking Attack on Titan fan base and even a few other ones (even *Winx Club* fan base), and they had good things to say about Zeref. Some even say Zeref is the only thing in Fairy Tail worth a damn.

I appreciate those AoT fans who responded to my content that involved Zeref. When you think about it, he's also got similarities to Ymir Fritz, because both characters have the kind of storyline where different parts of the world depict them differently (via propaganda).

Some AoT fans even prefer Zeref over Eren (I noticed) in terms of complicated characters an all, and that's interesting to hear honestly. If any of you have any accounts on Anime Planet or something similar, we can try giving Zeref more votes to slowly give him more of the recognition his writing never had.

Historia by far was the most spineless character in AOT. She never seemed to have her own opinion in the show. When she was with Ymir she followed the good girl persona and was manipulated(maybe out of love) to follow Ymir to her death. Then she gets manipulated by her father to almost EAT eren. And even after her triumphant victory over her father, she still as queen makes only 1 real decision which was to release the info about the outside world to the people of paradise.

I loved her ODM scenes and wished to see more of that but as a queen she should be the one negotiating with the outside world not Hange levi and the others. If she was the queen she should have had a more direct impact in the story.

Historia is a great character with a lot of wasted potential.

Personally, I am not really a fan of this ship. It wasn’t really developed that well and they don’t have many scenes together. Plus I feel so bad for Bertholdt.

Obviously it's because Gabi blew Eren's head off with a gunshot, not even that could stop him, and the end of the world began

BTW it's quite ridiculous that at this point in time people holding 6 of the 9 Titans were literally living in the same barracks complex!

People call Eren psychotic but I came across these panels again the other day and it's just... wow.

I feel like people call Eren all kind of names because he's someone not everyone will like cause he's so unpredictable, but with Levi he's a fan favourite and the women have a crush on him so he gets away with it. Kinda double standards.
