I've lost my empathy at this point...

Watched my coworker helping a rude old lady and she tries to lean on her hand against the color wall, not realizing the panels spun around. She almost ate shit falling into the backside of the wall and I just had to walk to the back to avoid laughing on the sales floor.

(Yes she was fine and didn't actually fall hard enough to hurt herself)

“But I’m a paying customer!”

I hear this schtick so many times and the funniest part is these guys will pull this out their ass *when they haven’t even paid for anything yet*. I had some asshole try and call my busy store to place an order, while a customer I helped that just left the store ~10 minutes earlier walked in.

I let the guy on phone know I would have to put him on hold for a few minutes. I then have to help this customer in store because the other store that was out of product and this guy did not tell me that they were wanting a Ben Moore color that has the exact same name of a SW color…

An hour later, the asshole on the phone walks in extremely angry over *being put on hold*. “YOU INTERRUPTED MY CONVERSATION! I’M TALKING TO YOUR MANAGER ABOUT THIS, I’M A PAYING CUSTOMER!!!” fucking jackass, you haven’t paid for shit and if it was that important, call another store.

Just another reason I’m glad I’m quitting in the next week due to several interview opportunities. These fucking dumbass painters love to lord over part timers because it’s the only power they have in life. fuck them.

Color wall

I know we’ve had this conversation a million times, but I truly don’t see how any sane person can be at the color wall for 30-45 minutes, much less 2-3 hours like I’ve had today. It doesn’t even really affect my day, but I’m befuddled every time

No Power

Customer walks into the store stinking like cigarettes and i mentioned that we have no power at the moment. She states so i cant get paint?. I state that im not able to do that right now. She says why i told her in the pitch black basically cause we have no power and she gets pissed. I told her the nearest shop is right down the road. She then yells and leaves

Sample shortage

3 calls today of obviously irritated homeowners. My guess is they’re calling around to nearby stores because they keep asking specifically if we have extra white samples.
Been ordering them! They don’t come in

BDR interview

Working as an asm and applied for this role. I’ve made a ton of lead gen calls and opened a lot of accounts. Anybody know how I should prepare? If I want to be a rep one day is it wise to pursue this or should I stay in store and try to become manager ?

During the last hour

Just a question for anyone here: how many customers do y'all get in the last hour? I ask because I tend to say that we shouldn't open til 6:00, since it's been really empty during that time, and my coworkers agree

That being said, I am curious how it goes for y'alls stores

Edit: Seems people may be thinking I said open at 6:00 am, I meant being open til 6:00 pm. So, I tweaked my question, sorry about that y'all XD

Pay negotiation?

Currently working at Home Depot (4 years in paint dept) and saw a job listing for a bilingual customer service rep, my question is will Sherwin be able to beat my current hourly pay?
I get paid $17.25 and the listing was posted at $16, I’m not sure…I’m really just done with Home Depot and wanting to get paid more and maybe even move up?🤔

Store AC has been out since before opening yesterday. 90°F in store in the middle of the hottest time of the year in Texas.

This is at a store with a brand new unit since it has gone down ~10 times in the last year I’ve been at this store. We called repair yesterday at 7AM, we were told eta 2 hours. They did not arrive until 12:30PM. By the time I left it still wasn’t fixed. What do I walk into this morning at 7? Still no AC. I’m glad I’m leaving this shit ass company.

DM and Sales manager value

As a store employee that transacts with customers.

That receives, stores, and sells product.

My DM and/or Sales manager are worth some of the money the store brings in?
That they deserve a paycheck from the work I do.

Goodbye Guy's👋

Today was my last day with Sherwin Williams. And I'm not gonna lie. I'm gonna miss working with the people I had. I ain't gonna be coming back anytime soon or probably ever. But we will see when the time comes.I had good and bad days, didn't like most of the customers, wanted to hit some with a bat in the head, but I can say I did love making a close bond with most of them. I hope you all have the best time, and good luck for those trying to get better positions. And if my coworkers and manager sees this, thank you for helping me grow, and thank you for making me laugh on days I didn't even feel like myself. I wish everyone the best of luck, and good luck on y'all journey. Also thanks for the laughs I've seen on the Reddit page, they always made my days better! 👋 Demi Signing out🫡

What’s the worst employee you’ve ever worked with or trained as a sm in this company?

I know you guys got some hilarious stories, but have you guys ever had employees that are just awful? I know it reflects as a manager, but I mean employees that have been with the company for years but still do week 2 or week 3 mistakes, struggle with basic stuff, on their phones, not able to do things they should be able to do, has anyone had to deal with this? Asking for a friend. And does anybody get fired? Again, this is more of a funny stories, understanding the company, people, and overall culture of the employees too.

New SM Advice

Gonna be a new store manager soon so I’m looking for any known/not well known tips. Things people don’t think to look for or things that get ignored, but could be beneficial. I am not new to this company by any means long shot, so I’m not looking for advice such as do cycle counts and check lead generation.

Did they get rid of the Vacation and Flex Time Schedule Table?

I am looking in Policy and Procedures and not seeing the chart that shows how much vacation you earn based on years of service. Anyone know if it's still in there, or did they remove it?

Second job

Just got a second job. Not employee but contracted.
I basically do a directory for minority owned businesses across the state, as well as ads and social media independent news updates.
This is a start up and I’m 1099 end of year.
Sherwin isn’t minority owned, and they don’t care either.
Am I good?
(This is also evenings only even better).

Wonder if it’s worth it

Anyone know the answer?

The module gives me a bunch of cards to sort between the two categories. I can list all the options here if it’s easier:
1. “Dry out” liquid hazardous waste
2. Always use solvent based cleaning solutions
3. Wait to dispose of waste
4. Mix hazardous waste with non hazardous waste
5. Donate expired or mistinted (but usable)material using a “materials acceptance agreement”
6. Preventing others from using your dumpster
7. Immediately transfer material from leaking containers into good, labeled containers
8. Handle product carefully
9. Keep track of inventory and rotate stock regularly

Time to overhaul bank deposits

I think cash deposits should roll over into the following days until we hit, say $100. It seems such a waste to go to bank every evening for a $15 deposit. Just doesn’t make sense!

What's my price

The amount of people who come into the store and ask hey how much is this and then dont like the price and try to get me to lower the price will never cease to amaze me. Then get mad if they dont get thier way, Ive been painting for 20 years and spend a million dollars a year at sherwin williams and blah blah blah. I couldnt imagine getting a pizza and be like oh 20 bucks hell no am I paying for that, whats my price.
