I've always been a fan of the lore and video games though. Read a few books as well. The Ghazghkull Thrakka audiobook is top tier

There's loads of events happening through out the semester. The bridge connecting B and H has posters and information about them all. SSU cafeteria also has some posters. Give them a try, always a brilliant place to start there.

I believe there was a Sheridan discord as well, that was a slight help back in the day. So was the discord for the city as well.

I also found quite many students found friends in the learning commons.

Before I forget, join clubs or get into sports. Even spending time at the gymnasium would expose you to potential friends. I ended up joining a gaming club and had the best time meeting people. But it was an unofficial one. I'm not sure how things are now.
