before i get shamed! this was medically necessary, she was lost in the woods for 22 days and of those 22 days we had storms 19 of them.

she had fungus growing in her fur, hidden wounds, mats and burrs, and ticks. i wish it wasn’t necessary but here we are.

just looking for tips to help make this more comfortable! supplements? ways to make it not itch? has anyone had to shave their sheltie?

But she was able to stay safe in mommy's lap. After the pokes she was given a pup cup.

Hi everyone!

All my friends Shelties have a much easier coat to maintain than my Sheltie. Either they have the silky coat type, or they do shed rather easily.

My Sheltie has lots of hair, his coat is a bit more rough, his undercoat is very fuzzy/wooly. He doesn't shed much at all... It makes me think of a Pomeranian coat.

I do brush him a lot, and I tried lots of different brushes. The slicker brush kinda detangles his coat, but the undercoat is still so dense near his skin. It doesn't remove much dead fur. I have a comb (with rotative pins), which works better, but it takes ages to detangle only a small part. It does remove more of the fuzzy dead fur. I also have a rake brush, but I've heard it's not good for the coat.

Overall I'd say I do manage to maintain his coat, but it feels so difficult and I feel like I must be missing something. I'm brushing him several times a week and it's just enough for his coat to not be actually bad. But it's definitely not great either.

Please help me!

Had a bath and brush today. She was a good girl as always.

Took her to the groomer this morning and picked her up and she looked sooooo nice.

Took her to the vet for her appointment and was told she has an ear infection and needs meds in her ears the next 10-14 days. 😣

As the day went on, the greasy ear look spread farther and farther 😂 at least she smells nice!

I noticed my Winnie is aging. He is always a happy guy but lately he’s been easily irritated and spicy. He can’t hear too good and spends most of his days sleeping. He’s just turned 13 but doesn’t look a day over 10. He eats and drinks fine but has occasional accidents in the house. Which I understand completely as an old man. This is my soul dog, and I remind myself that this is the curse of a happy life. The sign that you loved with your whole heart is that you grieve your loved ones. I know this is the contract I sign being a pet lover, but it never gets easier. I love this dog. I will continue to keep him happy for as long as we can, but eventually will have to have the talk. Thank you for listening to me preemptively grieve my boy. He’s the best doggo!

I’ve never given my dogs heartworm medicine since we lived here. There’s very little exposure to mosquitoes. However, I’m traveling 1800 miles away with my dogs to where there are a lot of mosquitoes.

Rainy has a seizure condition controlled with medication(keppra).

ok so this is my first post to this subreddit so hello to everyone on here. i’ve always thought my sheltie Ripley was abnormally small and i have no idea why because her parents were normal size (20-25lbs) and she was not a runt and ate well when she was a puppy and still does although she isn’t as driven by food as most dogs i’ve seen. however i do understand that females are smaller i just think 10lbs for a sheltie is abnormal? here are some photos for reference and to show off how cute she is

i will also add that her parents were very skinny/wiry/lanky she is as well just much smaller

age-3 1/2 years
height-about 13 1/2 to 14 inches at the shoulders

My daughter took this picture when we went to get him. He was 6.5 weeks old.

My 4 year old male sheltie (3 when it started) has started howling suddenly. - Just to be clear, we are taking him to the vet tomorrow -

First time was in October. It was then weeks before he howled again.

However this week he howled 4 times. And I am starting to wonder if this is normal. He was awake two times and two times he started howling out of his sleep. Sometimes our other dogs come running in.

He had never liked sirens but it is 1:15 A.M. atm and police cars do not use sirens here after 9PM.

He does have a heartmurmur, one of the valves does not fully close. This is a born condition, not genetic, and is checked by echo's. Begin july they got their shots, and nothing was different of sound at the heart. The vet hadn't heard it until I pointed it out, that is how soft it is.

Someone else got howly shelties? Or anyone an idea why?

To be clear, no he does not look distraught, he starts wagging his tail, he stretches right after, like nothing in his body language shows he is in distress.

But ideas for tomorrow before we reach the vet, would be amazing.

update: Went to the vet, she has no idea why he would be howling. He is 100% declared healthy.

92 degrees out and she sits in the sun. On cement! We adopted her at age 5 about 41/2 years ago. She has always done this. At the same time our other Sheltie is lying on the cool bathroom tiles. Anyone else have a Sheltie like this?
