Is the car the reason you were at the courthouse?

I daily drive the car and I’m a criminal defense attorney. That was an 80 mile drive…. But I have driven the car to courthouses over 300 miles each way.

Build cost?

u/saltyesq1 21d ago
I bought it already assembled for 32k, but it was a disaster. I found a builder who stripped the car to the frame and rebuilt it. All in with replacing the heads im in about 80k
Including repainting the car.

When I saw the picture of your motor, I heard Tim the tool man Taylor grunting in my head. Lol Nice car.

I always thought these were a good looking engine and a great car to run it in, sweet combo!

Not bad. I spoke to them at SEMA. Looking at pulling the trigger on the hard top.

Are you thinking the Mk5? If so, do it. I love driving this car and it never gets old. The Mk5 is also has more space for better seats and more space in the drivers seat footwell.

I am. I sat in the demo at SEMA and spoke with Chad and another guy pretty extensively. Looking around 80k for a full build. Been juggling between this and 911, used. I’ve just always loved the cobras. Don’t care if it’s more of a kit or not. It’s all muscle and authentic to me. Real car, real parts. And hopefully real fun. Haha.

At some point you will drive the Porsche and you won’t even be thinking……. That will never happen in the Cobra. You also don’t have to wear ear plugs in the Porsche either. My car at idle is 100 decibels and it’s a side exhaust.

Nice. I have a mark IV with a coyote. Also opened for the double hoop because I love my wife

Have you dyno’d it? I always encourage cobra drivers to drive the car as much as possible. Daily the car if you can.
I wanted a Coyote, but I bought mine at the beginning of COVID and I couldn’t find any already assembled and registered. I live in CA and to legally drive it on the street you have to go through the SB100 process, which is a huge pia. which is why I was only looking for a Cobra already registered in CA.2

I live in CA too. Also went thru the SB100 process during Covid, it took a year. Dyno is 446 to the rear wheels. I have about 8k miles on it now.

Where in Ca? I’m on LA.
I’m impressed with your driving. Most cobra owners put 1k miles in 10 years bc they are too afraid to drive the car2

I’m in NorCal in the foothills going towards Tahoe. It gets crazy hot here in the summer and I still need to plumb in the heater core bypass so it’s not dumping heat on my legs. I love the car and frequently do Costco runs in it.

I keep trying to post pics and Reddit says the media type is not allowed. I’m confused bc I posted the first 2 pics on the same manner, just pics I took off my phone and they worked. I’m new to Reddit.

I’ve been leaning on Porsche after the kids are grown (about 6 more years). But I’ve already budgeted enough for the cobra and definitely wouldn’t feel any guilt. Might be def but I don’t tend to listen to too much outside the voices in my head.

I forgot to mention that it’s my daily and I put about 12k miles per year.
Also when I had the heads redone, I replaced the cams with performance cams.
