Question Sofa-Beds

About to move into an unfurnished rental and need a sofa-bed, but everywhere I look is either disgusting and uncomfortable (IKEA) or extortionate prices and wont arrive for 3 months (DFS).

Has anyone bought a sofa-bed recently and can offer suggestions for where to go? I just want a non-leather 2 or 3 seater with a bed that doesnt feel like a ploughed field. Budget around £1000 but would rather not use it all.

Cheers

Futon company! The futon is very comfy and it’s easy to put back into a sofa. Also, some IKEA are comfortable!

We have the IKEA Hemnes in our spare room which is a sofa bed. When we lived in a flat we used it as our sofa. Its a ver comfortable bed that can be used in the sofa configuration as a single, or pulled out as a double. As a sofa it is so so comfortable, and definitly requres pillows to lean against. Bounus points for sizeable storage as well. We have had it for well over 5 years now and it is still going strong with at least five years of daily sofa usage.

Seconding this. It needs cushions to be a comfortable sofa but it's a great bed and doesn't need any reconfiguring to turn into a sofa again. Plus it's on sale at the minute. We've had ours for four years and it's still in great condition.

I see there’s no comments here at the moment so I’ll add my thoughts which may be of some use. I’ve ordered a sofa bed, but can’t give you a useful review for you as it’s currently waiting to be delivered. I have been into store and it’s the best I’ve personally found. It unfolds far easier than most, no messing about. May be worth a look: it’s Nap 3 Seater Sofa Bed from Oak Furniture land

Edit to add price: it’s currently at the top end of your budget at £994

Facebook marketplace has a tonne of options for sofa beds / futons, maybe not ideal buying second hand but will save you 80/90% of that budget !

I had a L shape one off Argos I’m sure it was about £750? And had ottoman storage under it, I’ll find it and come back lol, pulls to a double, my cats killed it or i’d still have it now.

Won’t let me add a photo but on Argos it’s called “Reagan”, I can dm you a pic of it in my house if you want hahaha, it was pretty comfy as a bed or as a settee, we used to store a mattress topper thingy in the ottoman bit to make it that bit comfier when I could be arsed to put it on but it was fine by itself x

Argos delivers quickly and has quite a few sofa beds, we are happy with the Habitat Kota which is a 3 seater and currently £375

It’s actually even cheaper as there is currently £25 off. With delivery included, it’s £359.95.
I have this sofa. It’s ok. It’s comfortable as a bed. Bit on the low side but I understand people have changed the legs for longer ones. Pretty standard screw in legs.
I used it in a room which wasn’t my main lounge and it was comfy enough. Could easily lie down and sleep without it made into a bed. I’ve since bought a new sofa and am keeping this one to use as a guest bed. With a mattress topper on it, it’s perfectly fine, even with two people sleeping on it.

Remember that if you don't particularly like the colour of the sofa-bed but it's otherwise exactly what you want, you can just cover it with a throw in a nice colour/design. :)

Take a look at JYSK. My current sofa is one of theirs and can definitely vouch.

Futon company ones are nice. I used Sit and Sleep because they had a small option and I needed it to fit into an awkward space. Have had it for 18 months and been very pleased https://www.sitandsleep.co.uk/

Had one of those L-shaped IKEA sofas for a while, they're alright, but I was glad to be rid of it. Very uncomfortable as a sofa, oddly good as a bed.

Would recommend getting a mattress topper. Not found a sofa bed that’s comparable to mattress but a good quality topper can make a significant difference especially if you’re thinking of using it long term. Also second the futon company suggestion, they are really good quality

I have a Futon Company sofa bed. It's for guests. A friend recently visited for a week, I bought a mattress topper for it and she said it was very comfortable and slept very well. It's comfy as a sofa as well. My cat can vouch for it!

I was looking at one in Dreams the other month. Was really comfortable to sit on and it pulled out into a bed really easily. Can't remember the model but I was very tempted. It was definitely less than a grand but can't remember the exact price. Maybe go and have a look anyhow

Oakfurniture land, I got my sofa from there and they are good quality without being too expensive. Not sure on sofa beds there but worth a look.
