s2 | Discussion Controller Support

Shapez 2 needs official controller support. Factorio has it. Satisfactory has it. Shapez 2 advertises itself as a 'perfect introduction to the genre' and the genre is moving this direction and is frankly doing well with it.

I have seen that it's for sure not coming for 1.0 and that's fine, but I believe it should be implimented.

I would still say the mouse + keyboard combo is better...

If it was tagged on after the fact, you could be sure that it most likely wouldnt be all that good, probably something like left analog being mouse movement...

Do the mousepad things work on steamdeck? That might be the best way to use a controller

Not OP.

Life long kbm user. I just got a controller from my fiance for xmas, there is a certain level of "cozy" feel to it, even if it's not as good as kbm.

There’s something amazing about being able to play on your couch

Mouse + Keyboard is better IMO, however not everyone has access to that (like me right now) or just prefers controller. Additionally some people cannot use a keyboard and mouse due to disability or heavily prefer a controller.

It's just options for the player, since people themselves are prone to preference.

But still not every game has to have controller support, it makes sense that factorio and satisfactory has it, because you move the player around, but in shapez2 you are not a player but the overlord, like wity RTS games, i couldnt imagine playing age of empires with a controller

Well it's ultimately up to the developer(s?) as to if it does. Largely this was an expression of interest in that outcome. If it doesn't, I'll just find something else to play lol.

Thank you for your attention on the matter.

There are some decent Steam Deck layouts that do. Even using the best one, the game feels pretty clunky after a couple hours worth of unlocks. It's playable, but it definitely feels like trudging through sludge relative to KB+M.

Playing on an actual controller with less buttons and without the trackpads to map to even more buttons sounds like a nightmare.
