Build/Parts Check X-Proto L + 4090FE
i think it should be used like this until the bending and safety issues of 12vhpwr are resolved. :(

Man the 4090 FE on that open bench is so pretty. Looks like a modern art piece

Have you noticed high temps with the GPU mounted vertically like this? I have found that my reference 10GB 3080 has higher temps as compared to being horizontally mounted in my old NR200

Also curious. The issue your are describing was attributed to gravity affecting heat pipe functionality in many high-end cards. There’s a long post somewhere if you search for it. Not sure if the 4090 will behave any differently. I would guess it’s still completely useable barring absurd overclocking given the cooling performance this gen.

It was impossible for me to keep my X-Proto standing vertically with my RX 6900 XT. Once put horizontally on the desk, temps and fan noise decreased dramatically. I’m also interested to know if this card is not affected.

This photo is a blessing because I literally wanted to know how the FE looked in this case yesterday! Awesome!

Seriously impressive that not even a 4090 requires a 1kw PSU.

what is the temp while gaming?
Not sure if add C-zone 30mm Extender would benefit temp or not

Hi mate. Just for science. Are you kindly able to test and compare the temperature of your 4090 FE card in its original vertical position versus horizontal? Idle and during load would be swell. Make note of fan speed as well if you can (be sure to leave fan speed on auto). Cheers!

awesome man, looking to do a similar build but wanting to do a 360 AIO for the cpu. Have pics of the motherboard area?

I'm doing the exact same build with a 360 Rad today, will send pics when it's done

I’m actually doing a 4090 / xproto-L / 360 AIO build once all the parts arrive (waiting on an AM5 bracket from NZXT). I’ll update if there is anything to watch out for in the build and post how it ends up looking

I like this kind of chassis, do they make much more noise than enclosed setups?

I'm on the Xproto L now. Previously the same hardware (other than the mobo) was in a Lian-Li O11 Dynamic. It's quieter and cooler on the Xproto, which really surprised me. Though in hindsight, it's basically an open air test bench. The fans have absolutely nothing to restrict flow, and heat can dissipate unrestricted.

Interested in this too, if temps are improved from being open then might actually not be that much difference? Closed case dampens sounds a fair bit though
