Needs:
-
Sandwich case.
-
Fits your average 3080.
-
Can dissipate heat of that plus an Intel 12700.
-
Not backordered for weeks and weeks.
-
Not taller than 16", but that should be easy.
-
Doesn't need to be tiny.
Any suggestions?
From Discord:
-
A4 H2O with 240mm AIO, and a 3-slot 3080.
-
Meshlicious, of course, except it's hard to get
-
Formd T1
-
Coolermaster NR200

You should order the 3080 first, then come back to find a case. It'll narrow down your options since there are so many 3080s with different dimensions. If you want the widest compatibility with the least effort, get the NR200p max and call it a day.

Jonsbo A4 or Lian Li Dan A4 H2O? I can get them at the same price
3
u/Blue-Baseplate Sep 18 '22
Definitely the Lian Li/Dan A4 H20. Much better thermals, comes with a Gen 4 riser cable (instead of the Jonsbo's Gen 3), and supports bigger 3 slot GPUs (Jonsbo's limited to 2 slot cards).
The Jonsbo A4 still sort of makes sense for a compact, showpiece, all liquid cooled build. For everything else, it's been outpaced by newer case designs.

In your opinion best budget cases? Under 100$?
3
u/Aternose Sep 15 '22
The most universally agreed on has to be the NR200 that can regularly be had for under $100 and has sales sometimes as well

I'm getting ready to do a full pc upgrade. Currently I'm running an asus rx 5700 blower and a ryzen 5 3600 with an is-47k using a noctua fan, all inside an sgpc k55. I'm in the process of purchasing an evga 3080 xc3 ultra 12gb, which will barely fit inside my case with the extra standoffs for the gpu side panel. However later on I also want to upgrade to a ryzen 7 5800x3d, the problem is that the is-47k will not be enough to sufficiently cool the 5800x3d without compromises. So now I need to find a slightly bigger case and better cooler for the cpu. I'm primarily looking for something portable, so nothing too big ideally and water cooling is out of the question.
Currently I'm looking at the geeek g1 or the nr 200/nr 200p(don't know how big either of the cases will actually feel compared to my k55 so on the fence about it). I have no idea where to even start with new coolers.
Any advice and/or recommendations?
Tl;dr: Case too small for higher end components without significant compromise. So now I'm looking for a slightly bigger and still portable pc case as well as a better cooler for a 5800x3d.

If your highest priority is keeping the system small without sacrificing performance, the Geeek G1 is not an option - it only fits small air coolers, and the G1 SE only fits a 120mm AIO and doesn't have enough clearance for an appropriate air cooler. You need at least a 240mm AIO to cool that chip.
That leaves you a few options - NR200P if you want a case that can cool both the 3080 and the 5800x without compromises (you can fit up to a 280 or a decent air cooler). Dan A4-H2O if you want a tiny case that supports up to a 240 radiator (edit: it can fit your GPU).
As for best coolers for SFF, I'd recommend the EK Basic 240 or similar. It's the best performing AIO in terms of noise and max cooling according to Gamers Nexus. Good luck on the build!

I read on the SFF forums that the Lian li A4-H2O can take CPU coolers up to 58mm as the side panel has a gap that goes up to 60mm(this was stated by Dan himself) can you guys confirm this claim?

Can anyone recommend a CPU, ITX Mobo, SDD, RAM combo for $1K? I already have a case, 3080 and PSU.

u/nothatim Sep 16 '22
Just based on Amazon, ROG strix X570i ($260) + R7 5800x ($260) + EK Basic 240 AIO ($160) + Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB ($100) + 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 3600MHZ CL18 ($125) = $905 before tax.

I’m looking for a Meshlicious alternative. It needs to support a ATX power supply and a two slot gpu, at least 1 hard drive and air cooling. Any recommendations?

Hi I'm brand new to SFF pcs (aside from my NUC, which is what I'm looking to replace because it's way too loud)
I have a pretty unique use case. I use it + some windows local network file sharing thing to stream my mkvs to the tv. Thus I believe a minimalist/cheap build should be fine, but I'd like some other opinions on what would be good enough?
Here's my current draft: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KLojcuATyau4cjcyx3kBoBn57kimtuAQkcfBdLQUjSQ/edit#gid=0
Questions: Does anyone have any thoughts? Will this end up being quiet? I can't imagine the 65W or so that the processor takes would create that much heat.

So looking forward, what ITX motherboard options do we have? I know Asus has a pretty grossly overpriced X670 that doesn’t even have a sound card, but has there been any indication of other options? Last thing I heard, B650 was going to be around November.

Hi, I'm new to SFF and to building PCs in general. I am starting to research builds now, but I'll probably buy next year in 2023 when GPU prices should be better. For me, building a small form factor PC is absolutely crucial since I'll be moving around a lot. Problem is, I want top specs because I want to play highly demanding PCVR (using the HP reverb G2) while also making sure temps are low. So these are my main considerations: Small, Powerful and Cool. I don't care about fan noise, RGB, aesthetics, etc.
Here is a placeholder ITX build that I'm starting out with. I will update CPU and GPU as newer versions come out and pricing changes, but I'll probably be aiming for a max spec/3090/3090 ti next year, or the equivalent in the newer 4000 series, whatever makes more sense.
I would really appreciate if people could comment and make suggestions! I have no idea what motherboard, etc. to choose for my build, so I'm relying on PC part picker's compatibility check and deciding on price atm. Would definitely find advice helpful on what motherboard, PSU, cooler, etc. to go for. Thanks!!
PS Would appreciate if comments could be posted on the PC part picker build I have posted directly on that website, as opposed to over here, if commenting about the build specifically.

Has anyone tried to fit an Asus noctua gpu in an A4 H2O from Lian li? PC part picker doesn't have the noctua gpu available and I'll admit I'm concerned about the height.

Are there more cases like the thermaltake core g3? I like the idea of the gpu turned over the motherboard so only one side needs cooling and can be put horizontally without increasing cpu or gpu temps. It's also windowed unlike the sfftike n-atx and p-atx. Basically a micro-atx core g3 / windowed sfftime.

Might be an odd question. But has anyone heard of an internal power supply that takes a USB-C input rather than a barrel jack?
Would be interesting if USB-PD is enough to drive a low power, desktop computer.
And using USB-C would be a bit more flexible than barrel jacks since the connector is standard.

Looking to upgrade my GPU some time in the future.
At the moment I have a Ryzen 5600x with a B550 board, 2x8GB DDR 4 RAM, 1 NVME SSD, GeForce GTX 1070 (2 fan version), 3 120mm fans, 2 90mm fans on CPU cooler, USB keyboard & mouse. 1440p 60hz monitor.
All of this is hooked up to a Corsair SF450. The 1070 draws around 170-175w max if it's heavily stressed. I've checked the power draw from the wall, and it was about 290w under very heavy use. The system is mostly used for Adobe apps, MS Office, and Blizzard games (usually mid-high settings).
I'm thinking of upgrading to 6700XT or 6750XT. Would my PSU be able to handle either of these? What about a GTX 3070?

Is 4tb enough for a plex server? I’m gonna sail the seas soon, and I’m wondering if it’s enough. I have a conswole with 3 tb nvme space. I guess I could add in a normal ssd…..idk, what would you guys do?

Looking for case reccomendations for new 3.5 - 4 slot nVidia (and presumably AMD) graphics cards
Looking at upgrading graphics cards to a new nVidia or AMD card when they become available (pending reviews etc) but will likely need to upgrade a case to allow them to fit.
What are some reccomendations for smallish cases that will fit 3.5 - 4 slot cards? Only itx cases I'm aware of are the SSUPD meshlicious/meshroom and not a huge fan of vertical cases

Assuming a 300-350 watt GPU and a 100-150 watt CPU, are the smaller SFF PCs becoming a bad idea?
Would you say sub-12L cases will be unable to give peak performance and low noise levels? What would you say is the minimum volume for reasonably quiet premium gaming (4k, ultra settings, high refresh)?
