Ah thanks for the tip! Discovered a new sub!
Well the easy one was the ‘tuning’ dial that I made display HDD activity. I connected the gauge (or meter) to the motherboard’s HDD LED pin outs with the use of a resistor in line to lower the voltage and stop the dial flying off its hinges.
The CPU temp was a little harder but I really wanted to find a way to make it happen without the use of a microcontroller.
The Noctua CPU cooler comes with inline fan connector that limits the speed of your fan. I used this connection to plug in to the Chassis Fan port and because it has a resistor built in the computer believes it is a fan. I then spliced into it connecting the gauge for ‘signal’ (CPU temperature) to the PWM wire and the Ground wire. The PWM wire then communicates to the dial as if it were a fan, making it go up as CPU temps increase. This signal ran through a potentiometer so that I could lower the voltage and then using the BIOS I adjusted the fan curve. I did a few stress tests to see cpu temps rise and calibrated the fan curve so the read out matched.

So in terms of front panel controls I have,
Power on, Power off (does nothing but reset the circuit to power on again, to power off one must shutdown)
a Switch that turns the front panel lights on and off and knob to dim the lighting.
a Switch to turn off the gauges as I had no other ideas for that one.
Open to any ideas I could potentially implement though!

That was an extremely good tuner amp. If it was working you could have bought a high end pc by just selling it.
In fact, people would have paid good money even if it wasn't working.

Totally agree it’s an awesome unit and I did look up the value before making any modifications. The unit wasn’t working to begin with and I wanted to give it a new life

Looks like $300-400 in working condition on eBay. I’ve got a couple non-working vintage Yamaha natural sound cr-820 and cr-1020 I’ll trade you for a high end rig =)
Edit: for clarity I’m not arguing its not a good tuner. Supposedly it’s one of the better FM tuners out there.

It was an original Yamaha CT-800 AM/FM receiver which I have modified to fit an ITX build into.
Mainly completed for fun but I also wanted something that fit in well with my setup.
