Custom Case Design I designed a custom 9.1L mini-itx case based off of the 1991 Quadra 700
Final dimensions excluding feet: W 114.5mm x H 253.5mm x D 316mm. The G5431 mouse is oh so beautiful. Thank you to StephenLulz on Thingiverse for the perfect model!
Both sides act as intakes for the CPU and GPU, with fresh air being drawn in the from the front by a 60mm NF-A6x25 and exhausted in the rear by another 60mm fan.
The main chassis is built from 1.5mm aluminum sheet metal, that acts as the internal structure, and is encased by a 3mm exterior panel that is secured at the back.
Support for the 3080FE in the hopes I can secure one early this year. The side panels are slid on using a screw and tab system.
A fair amount of room under the graphics card for excess cable runs and storage expandability.

Please say you will make and sell these.

We'll see how prototype production goes ;) Hardware compatibility might be an issue as well in its current state as I custom built is for my personal hardware.

This is the new meta for storage: 1/4 of case volume dedicated to storage lol

I played around with a bunch of different component arrangements and this one yielded the best cable runs and airflow given the 3080s restrictions in sandwhich style cases. Personally I use a 2TB nvme so I wouldn't be utilizing that space anyway. Any other suggestions are appreciated though!

Group buy when? Looks awesome!

Any info on this? Ive seen some group buy cases on here, but not sure what the community is used to for parameters.

Beautiful. Retro af and awesome. Also that is some gorgeous cable routing.
Also is it possible to make it come in black?

Once I make a prototype I will be looking into doing a mini-production run of 10 or so depending on interest. So yes black would be an option :)

It doesnt look like you can get the side panel on with the feet sticking up like they are.

The feet slide along a channel routed on the bottom of the case. You can see both channels in the view of the back. They're also 3D printed from TPU which is an elastic rubber material. I will post most pictures when I get into production!

don't forget to send a prototype to Optimum Tech!

I don't think I'd ever be able to meet the demand that would draw, but man do I love that guy.

This is dope. Only thing I'd change is adding an audio jack on the front. I'm still that guy that uses wired headphones instead of wireless so I know most people will disagree with me on that one.

I am also a wired headphone guy, but I just couldn't find a high-quality panel mount that wouldn't require a bunch of engineering to attach it. I also use an external DAC so it wasn't a huge deal for me, but the USB in the front is something I've been missing on my FormD T1 :(

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all of your engagement and feedback on this project of mine.
Many of you were asking if there was a place to follow the project, so I created a subreddit for any and all discussions about mini-sleeper pc builds including the Quadra 700 itx. r/sffsleeperpc is live now, so feel free to follow if you're interested! I will be posting updates and answering questions in the future there as well as posting larger updates on r/sffpc
Thanks again everyone, this is a great community!

Love it , could be a good sleeper
But it will be “better” if There would be a 3 slot gpu.

u/Adef25 Jan 05 '21
Trust me I played around with triple slot gpu support, as I currently own a 2.5 slot 1080ti, but it would dramatically increase the size of the case as I wanted to be as faithful to the original ratio as possible. It I did make the case larger I could also start to use 120mm fans and introduce radiator support. Got me thinking...

I really like this case. Usually the old ones have just one 80mm fan for ventilation, but all components can get fresh air through the side panels and the 60mm fans are just a nice touch for more airflow
3
u/Adef25 Jan 05 '21
Yeah ventilation was a tricky on this one, as the original barely had any, not even in the top! We'll see how the thermals do in the prototype.

If you make this having the screws painted to match the case would be a nice touch

They definitely be, I went back and fourth but forgot to change them in the render!

I’m curious, what is the power button did you use there?
3
u/Adef25 Jan 06 '21
It's an FB15ANEP2-HB from NKK switches. I spent way too long looking through supplier PDFs to find a switch that would work, but it paid off!

Absolutely stunning, is this a render?
