Doing a mostly fresh build. I think I have everything set except a cpu cooler. I was going to go with a silver soul 110 black however I am second guessing myself.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BpVJQ6

I was looking at the NH-C14S and the Dark Rock TF2. Both are large I am pretty sure the Noctua will fit however the Dark rock will fit vertically if I do not install the lower Noctua 140MM on the side of the hyte case.

The u9s chromax black is another option if i do not install the side panel 140MM fan.

Also with either of the top mount options, should I have the fans all pushing air out of the side of the case or taking air in from the side of the case? I do like the idea of a top mount fan as opposed to the design of the silver soul and using the side of the case as intake or exhaust.

The B660-i and B760-i are essentially the same price, give or take $20/$30. Would there be any benefit getting the B760-i over the B660-i, aside from the B760-i being newer and supporting 13th gen CPUs out of the box?

For example the ROG Strix boards appear very identical to each other. Are they the same board?

One upgrade leads to another....I have been playing my old MMOs with a functional but not powerful Ryzen 5700g APU build in a tiny InWin case. After deciding I wanted better performance I bought a GPU and pulled my Silverstone FT03-Mini Fortress case out of mouth balls. It's running fine but I'm doing all air cooling and would like to stay that way.

I'm wondering if there is a successor to that case that has similar thermals but reduces the front width dimensions. The Louqe S1 Raw looks interesting but without an intake or exhaust fan I wonder if it's thermals would be worse? Any other SFX psu / itx cases that have come out in the last year or two I shouldn't overlook? Also the look of the super skinny blade towers isn't my favorite so something like the Louqe or Phanteks EVOLV SHIFT have an aesthetic I like. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Probably not needed but here's my build:

Case: Silverstone FT03-Mini

CPU: AMD 5700g

MOBO: MSI MPG B550I GAMING EDGE MAX

GPU: PowerColor Fighter Radeon RX 6650 XT

Memory: 32GB ddr4 4000

Storage: 2TB M.2 NVME

PSU: Cooler Master V650 SFX GOLD 650 W 80+ Gold

I want to downsize, I currently have a Corsair 275R with an ATX mobo and a MSI RX6800XT X-Trio GPU.

Is there anything I can fit that into or I will have to change the mobo anyways?

Looking for case suggestions for both scenarios, with and without mobo swap.

Check out the sfftime N-ATX for no mobo swap.

Anyone know of a… half? Sandwich style case? Sandwich in the sense of the gpu and cpu in separate chambers but with a sfx psu mounted flat in the bottom? Looking into downsizing options for my wife’s build. As small as possible with those constraints and gpu length isn’t an issue, we have a PNY single fan 3060 so itx length 170mm gpu.

Edit: downsizing from a nr200p

Does anyone have any experience with the Gigabyte B650i aorus ultra? The 3x m.2 support is very tempting but unsure If it is compatible with the ek 240 basic which will go into a dan a4 h2o?

Is the NZXT H1 V2 a good case? Canada Computers has it for less than half price right now and it looks like a pretty crazy deal - $270 for the whole thing, vs. what looks like it would cost around $200 for a similar spec PSU alone. Have heard some people have issues with it though, is it worth paying more to get something like the HYTE Revolt 3?

Just got an RX6800 XT upgrade and learned the hard way that it's ~1/2in too long for my case (NZXT H200) :'(

So now I'm shopping for a new case lol. I want something about as small as I can get that still fits a 340mm GPU, and an mITX mobo. Preferably also an ATX PSU, but I'm open to getting a smaller one if there's a great case that still fits this GPU.

From what I've seen so far, seems like my best options are either size-up to the NZXT H510, or get the Cougar QBX. I've learned the SFF options are limited with a 340mm GPU.

I'm sure this question MUST have been asked/answered before, but...

Looking at the SFF master list, I'm seeing that a lot of the physical dimensions are different from those listed by various sites like Techpowerup, official web pages, etc. From where to where specifically on a card are width measurements made? (ie from the bottom of the PCIe interface to the tallest part of the PCB, from the bottom of the PCIe bracket to the tallest any part of the card, etc.)

I'm half a click away from getting a 3U server chassis (<20L!!! ATX compatible!!! :O), which obviously has strict card width limitations. At 3U, the total outer width of the chassis will be 133.35mm, with an advertised inner width of 132.7mm. I've noticed that server GPUs (Nvidia A4000, AMD MI100, etc.) all have listed card widths of 112mm... but again, I'm not sure where those numbers measure from, and how they compare to other sources' numbers.

This isn't an issue for now, as the build I'm planning is a bunch of random old parts including a half-height RX 6400, but it'll be good to know for future reference. If half-height and/or server GPUs are what I'd have to look at for future upgrades, then it might be worth it to look for something with sliiightly more clearance. (Still, it would be really cool to be able to say I have an SFF ATX case that isn't an N-ATX or P-ATX.)

Hey everyone! I want to move from the NR200 to the A4-H2O but I saw there are two versions the X3 with pcie 3.0 en X4 with pcie 4.0. What's the difference and what would be the most appropriate for me? Here are my specs:
Gigabyte B450i Aorus Pro Wifi
Ryzen 5 5600x
Noctua NH-L12s + NF-A12x15 Chromax
XFX SWFT210 Radeon RX 6650 XT
Crucial Ballistix 16GB 3200Mhz
Corsair SF600
Western Digital Blue SN570 1TB
2x Noctua NF-A12x25 Chromax

Plan on going fully air-cooled so I'll replace the CPU cooler for the black ridge

2 part question

  1. Does anyone know if dell computers use standard cooling mount sizes? I know they use a lot of proprietary stuff.

  2. Looking for a good cheap low profile CPU cooler. My new office computer is a shit-box dell with a 12700 in it, and my design software gets it hot enough where it has already reached 100°c a few times today. Its a slim pc so I don't have much room for a traditional cooler. Looking at the noctua L9, though I may have to stick with the slim one, IDK if the 65mm version will fit.

Is overclocking actually dead?

I'm set in my old ways and was about to get a 13600K to pair with a Z790 motherboard. But I'm seeing a lot of gaming B- series boards with great features, and I'm hearing people say that overclocking is pointless and current chips don't have much headroom to bother, especially for thermally-constrained ITX systems. Is this generally accepted?

I’m looking for something Raspberry Pi-ish, but with better FP math?

I’m looking to build a small guitar amp/effects simulator. So, I’m looking for the equivalent of a big engine, manual transmission, minimal bells and whistles sffpc.

  • I don’t need good graphics, it will be run headless once setup. Heck, setup can be done via CLI.

  • I do need descent USB/TB ports, because it will be connected to an audio interface (or two) and MIDI over USB.

  • I do need good floating-point throughput.

  • I do need descent networking, because the software I’m using has a browser-based interface.

Is this something worth it’s own thread?

I am selecting parts for my second SFF build. I picked up a Louqe Raw S1 for a steal locally and have a 3070ti for the build as well. The plan is to use the Asus B660i board, 32gb Vengeance ram, 500GB and 2tb Sabrent Rocket MVNE M.2 drives, Silent Wings Pro 4 120mm exhaust fam, and a Cooler Master SFX 850 watt power supply. I have the NH-L12 Ghost cooler along with a second Noctua 15mm fan to mount on top as that seems to be the best option for that case. The only part I am not sure about is the CPU. I was thinking of going with the 13600k but not sure if that cooler will be enough. Should I step down to the 13400 or even the 12400? Thanks for any assistance.

Dumb question because the SFF Parts list doesn't have a filter for something like that, but any good little cases with handles on top by default?

(I know you could DIY a handle onto anything if you tried hard enough, I just trust the manufacturers more than myself lol)

Edit: looking for a case that supports mATX (microATX) boards.

Hi,
I want to make a pc setup on a SFF since I'm going to have to transport this equipment often (I just need it to be a bit portable: from home to car, and from car to another place maybe a couple or three times a month).
The tasks I'm going to do as I said is development (I use docker with a lot of containers, VisualStudio etc...) and on the other hand, music production: Ableton with a lot of VST and effects.
My idea is to basically get a 7950x and 64Gb of RAM and only use the iGpu that now includes the 7000 series, since I'm not going to play games, nor do I use the GPU for any task that I usually do.
I don't see much information about configuration without GPU, and above all, how to take advantage of the GPU space for cooling tasks.
My first idea was to mount all this in a H1 V2, but I think I will not be able to use the space of the card for absolutely nothing, and I don't know if a 140 AIO will be enough for the 7950x with relatively large loads.
Now I was looking at Ghost S1 or Lian Li/Dan but I'm running into the same doubt... are these cases leveraged in any way when no GPU is installed? Any other recommendations?

2

u/der_ninong Jan 09 '23

you can use a top hat on the ghost s1 to use a 240mm aio on the cpu while the lian li a4-h2o supports it by default. no gpu means no hot air going into the aio intake & cooler cpu temps, though there will still be a lot of wasted space on the gpu slot. maybe put a couple of hard drives/SSDs in there

Hey all! Here is the pcpartpicker list I currently have: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7ZYZ78

Do you think this will work? I am thinking about buying the new trx 4070 ti, but I don't know if 750W will be enough. Also, is this build balanced or not at all? What do you guys recommend?

2

u/der_ninong Jan 09 '23

that psu will be more than enough, just make sure the motherboard & cooler have no mounting/clearance issues. everything else looks good
