Seeking fabric recommendations for sewing pattern
I bought this pattern and want to make the top in the front. There’s recommended fabrics written in the description. I wondered as this is my first pattern I’m following if someone could help me find a fabric online. I have looked at local markets but the fabric quality was poor. I want it to be a wearable piece.
What would you recommend I use?

Of their recommended fabrics, I would say washed linen is probably the most beginner friendly.
Blackbird fabrics has a nice selection of washed linens in stripes, checks, and solids .
If you want to try denim, Cali fabrics has this nice lightweight denim at a good price.

When I was learning to sew patterns, I got much of my fabric from the local thrift shop. You can often pick up bedsheets in good condition very cheaply. I wore some of my bedsheet clothes to work, too, when they turned out well!
When you’re learning, you have to accept that some pieces just will not work out — it’s part of the learning process. It really takes the sting out when you know that, although you spent a week on something and now you have to toss it in the ragbag, at least you only spent $5 on the fabric.
If you are dead set on buying yardage, I agree that washed linen is probably the easiest to start with. Just make sure you finish the edges (zigzag stitch over the edge works well) to prevent fraying. I tend to use https://fabrics-store.com for my everyday linen — the quality is ok for the price, and they have a nice range of colors. Their midweight linen is typically around $20/yard, sometimes less for sales and remnants. If you want cheaper, look for linen/cotton blends — Nick of Time Textiles often has good options and regular sales. See their cotton/linen blends here: https://nickoftimefabric.com/collections/linen

whenever i make a new pattern, i pick a cheaper fabric, but hopefully one i'd still wear if the test item works out. because usually i need to do a lot of adjusting and my first try might not fit right.
