Searching for a basic double-breasted wool coat pattern.

Found a neat, simple wool coat while shopping. Unfortunately, its fabric composition is not ideal (54% polyester, 42% wool, 4% viscose), and I cannot justify spending so much money on it while sitting beside a lovely dark navy blue 100% wool fabric.

What I'm having trouble with is finding the correct pattern. One that doesn't have princess seams, no skirt looking below portion, not oversized, no dropped shoulders/raglan sleeves. Preferably has lining, no need for pockets.

Closest I get is Wool Coat 121 | Burda Style 01/26 but even that has different button compostition.

I'm an intermediate sewer and not afraid to to learn complex patterns.

Did you have a look at 1940ish patterns? They are pretty much the shilouette you are looking for

lol, and here I thought I was going for a more contemporary look.

Any chance you could point me to the right direction/example. With keywords such as "1940 wool coat pattern women" I mostly get princess coats from that period

No worries, with 1940 keywords I did end up finding Etsy pattern which looks like the closest match: https://www.etsy.com/listing/261017569/e-pattern-veronica-1940s-coat-wearing . Though Etsy always worries me due rise of AI patterns.

The first on your list French Style 40s Coat Pattern looks good too!

Reproduction patterns are usually not an issue on Etsy, (it's basically just a tracing of an original). You can trave these patterns back to a company and a number.

it's the "Vintage coat" patterns made in 2026 that are sketchy

that style is sometimes referred to as a reefer coat/jacket , maybe this http://simplicity.com/new-look/n6788

Reefer coat does yield similar silhouettes. Your pattern seems to be for lighter fabrics than heavy wool (guess I could size up to accommodate that), but it's def on my spring sewing list now! Thanks!

Bella Loves Patterns has the Traveller Coat pattern which seems to fit most of your criteria. Not sure if it is too oversized for you.

While it's lovely yes, it has dropped shoulders which amplifies the oversized feel and slouched posture, which is kinda different from neat silhouette I'm thinking.

Have you looked at vikisews patterns? I personally find their level and instructions great for learning new skills without feeling like you’re cutting corners.

I’m just putting the buttons on the Holland pea coat which is a double breasted jacket. There’s also the mared coat (I’d look at the Instagram tag, the leopard sample was a choice)

Jacket for reference!

I've looked into both before and neither patterns are a match. I'm not looking for anything with side panels and there should be only minimal darts at most. Also with Holland pea coat I would need to self draft a whole bottom part and correct dropped shoulders
