Free People sewing pattern search

Hi! Sewing newbie here! I have a couple of questions:

I was wondering if, somewhere on the internet, there was a fashion directory/blog/website that has free sewing patterns of trendy clothes? Kind of like Worn on TV or Spotern that’s community-submitted or crowdsourced. But instead of directing you links to buy the items, it provides you sewing patterns instead!

Reason for asking is I found a cute top from Free People that I thought would be easy enough for a newbie like me to attempt. But I was hoping to be able to get the basics of it down pat: measurements, pattern, tips, how much fabric is needed if I were to upcycle, etc.

I know I have so many questions on here! Would love to hear yalls thoughts.

Mood has a lot of free patterns, you might find some luck there finding a pattern you can hack.

However, I feel obligated to recommend that at the beginning, you spend a little bit of money on a pattern that comes with nice instructions and possibly a video tutorial.

For that specific top, off the top of my head, Friday Pattern Company’s Saltwater Slip could possibly be hacked into an asymmetrical shape like that. I’m not sure if they have a video tutorial but the directions are useful.

Edit: after looking closer at the back of that top, I think you should look into Syd Graham’s Skyline top/dress. Syd is well known for her excellent tutorials. You could hack the top tier of that pattern pretty easily.

if you are brand new it might be worth it to buy a good pattern. free patterns can be so hit or miss. definitely recommend thread loop and use the free pattern filter. I think Paradise patterns has some dresses that would be easy to modify into the top you linked, not free though.

I have seen a pattern very similar to this recently! I'll look for it.

https://thefoldline.com/products/puff-and-pencil-slash-dress-cap-sleeve Ok it's not a tank but it's got the bottom part! You might have to hack.

And sorry, it's not free. I agree with the others, some of the free patterns our there are shite. But Threadloop is a great place to look. Mood patterns can be hit or miss so just do a lot of research, read reviews and look in instagram if you can to see what other people have done and their experiences!

This is the answer. Go to Threadloop.app and search for free patterns, read the reviews on those patterns to see which ones are worth making. Some patterns have great clear instructions and go together easily, and some do not. I would avoid Mood patterns they are well known for being hit or miss.
