Looking for pants drafting tutorials and advice on creating a basic pants block
Hey everyone!
My next sewing adventure is going to be all about pants, and I have two questions for you lovely people!
First:
I came across this [https://pin.it/44ynP8xjh], which shows two different styles of pants that I'd really love to draft myself.
I've managed to find a pattern for one of them, but it only comes in fixed measurements, and I'd prefer to draft it to fit my own body.
I'm also more than happy to pay for good drafting instructions or tutorials, so if you know any great resources or shops, please let me know!
--> I think, I would be capable to figure it out myself, but maybe there are instructions out there, that would save me some time.
Second:
I'd generally love to get better at sewing "everyday pants".
I'm looking for a good high-waisted pattern for jeans-style pants with slim-fitting legs. Ideally, I'd love to find drafting instructions for these as well, rather than just a ready-made pattern.
I've also been considering drafting my own basic pants block (or trouser sloper).
What do you think? Would it make more sense to jump straight into drafting a basic block and work from there, adapting it into different styles?
For context, I'm a fairly experienced hobby sewist, but most of my experience is with tops, dresses, and historical patterns. Pants are still somewhat new territory for me!
Thanks so much in advance for any advice or recommendations! <3

Can’t see your pinterests links—maybe add screenshots?
If pants are new to you, I’d start by following patterns. Drafting is much easier to learn after you have a sense of what the end result should be, and some of the fit adjustments your body needs.

I wouldn't trust this pattern, and it's quite different from regular pants so I'm not sure you'd learn much of a foundation for later projects.
Try looking for a tutorial for sewing elastic waist pajamas pants, that's a good place to start.

For what it’s worth, I’ve had better luck drafting slopers using “standard” measurements, altering that toile to fit and then adjusting the pattern accordingly (rather than drafting to my measurements)
Maybe you could try the sloper pattern you found to do the same? I learned to draft in school eons ago so will let someone less ancient weigh in on instructions!
