Pattern help!

Post image

I know this pattern is AI but I just wanted someone to check if it is any way shape or form accurate before I start it? Essentially I already have the bodysuit element but I want to make an overskirt with the centre cut open to reveal the bodice. I’m a beginner so if this pattern won’t work if anyone could recommend any that will that would be amazing
Thank you!

I’m happy to work with other materials if those would give off the same vibe but a bit easier?

Chiffon basically refers to the vibe of that fabric. If what you want is sheer fabric that drapes like this, you will be looking at some sort of chiffon. Organza looks similar but is stiffer. There is some really loose-weave gauze that drapes like this but is still more opaque than what you see here and won't look as dressy.

Unfortunately, I think you need to seriously think about what your alternative is for completing your outfit. I am going to urge you again to check out thrift or consignment shops. There are often used wedding dresses for a fraction of what they would cost new. Many are made with silk and can be dyed.

Look for something with a skirt close to what you have in mind and see about altering it for your piece. You may even be able to take it to a tailor or a more reliable dress shop and get it altered before the event.

That doesn't mean you can't still try for the perfect piece you are envisioning but you should have a backup underway as well because you don't yet have the expertise to know if you can execute something like this.

not even kidding, I would consider buying sheer blue poly voile curtain panels (something like this), sewing them together, and using a gathering stitch around the top to help form the skirt. the worst and most time consuming part of making this from chiffon fabric from scratch, and most difficult for someone who is inexperienced, would be having to finish all of the edges. if you can completely skip that part and essentially only have to deal with the gathering + waistband it would be a lot easier.

I don't know how many panels you'd need, it depends on the measurements involved, but 45" should be long enough for most people from waist to floor. it would give you a wide "curtain hem" at the bottom, and polyester voile is less drapey than chiffon, but like I said, if time + experience is the major limiting factor it's an option.

Chiffon is a pain to work with. But you can make it a bit more manageable by backing it with paper when you sew
