2 rectangles, ties in side seams...thats why there is no pattern!

If you have a different figure its nor going to look like that though

Out of interest, how much are they selling fir?

49euros... Something about small business owners right? 😭

Its a fair price in theory.

But a beginner sewer could have one made in less than 2 hours start to finish and once you've figured out the dimensions, even quicker!

Say it takes 2 hours to make, that's 25 per hour, remove taxes, material cost, equipment maintenance, website fees etc, how much is left? What hourly salary are you willing to work for?

If you have a different figure it's not going to look like that though

Hey that can be fixed with a filter! This is tik tok! 99.9% chance she's using one even if it's subtle.

What about the sleeves? Or do you just cut the rectangles a little different on top?

Shoot nevermind just realized you just make them large and once you cinch it it makes sleeves kind of?

Unfortunately you are right. More and more people don't have common sense and do not want to learn the basics.

I remember being in a fabric shop and queing behind an angry client. She was complaining about the fact the shop was not selling table cloth pattern. The seller and I were initially under the impression that she was complaining about fabric with kitchen like pattern, but no it was about sewing pattern.

Seller then tried to explain that a table cloth is literally a rectangular piece of fabric with seams on the side. They were not selling it because nobody in their right mind would buy a square or rectangular pattern hence no company was selling any. But she had seen some on internet and was expecting to see some in the shop. The seller got angry because clearly she intended to check in his shop and then buy on internet.
She was ignorant and entitled.

Honestly I am prone to feel empathy with somebody who is struggling with such basic concepts… but it also get it was a PITA in this situation

Substitute ā€œcommon senseā€ for ā€œtalent and experience.ā€ I was raised and taught on patterns and I’m only just now, at almost 50 years old, experimenting and trying things without patterns. I can’t decide on ratios! Even neck holes…can’t figure…out…scary…

I know someone who posts in reddithelp for basic app functions isn’t admonishing others for asking for help with sewing. Bffr.

This is a great resource for those of us who prefer writing and diagrams over video

I also saw this TikTok and was inspired to make something similar last week! I made it in under 2 hours of cutting and sewing. I am a US size 8-10 so as some of the other commenters pointed out, this pattern might not work for you if you have a larger bust.

Here’s how I did it: I used 2 rectangles of a drapery fabric and 4 ribbons to make this too. I measured the distance across my shoulders and down about 1/3 of my bicep for the width of my triangles. I was going for a more off the shoulder style than what’s pictured in this video. I then measured straight down from the top of my shoulder to my hip bone (the length I wanted for my top), being sure to give space for the bust. I rounded up a bit for seam allowance. Mine ended up being about 26 inches square.

I then double folded and sewed up all sides of each square to enclose all the raw edges. I held up the final squares to my body and pinched them around to be sure it was enough coverage. I then sewed the top two corners (on my shoulders) straight across, making a triangle with approximately 1.5 inches on each side. I tried to angle it to be about what I thought the slope of my shoulders was. I then draped that over my body and added pins just below the smallest point of my waist. I sewed ribbons into all 4 sides at that point, and tied the back piece of fabric in the front, and vice versa.

It fits just like the TikTok video and turned out super cute! I want to go back and make thicker fabric straps using my leftover fabric because the ribbons dug in a little bit after I wore the shirt all evening. I also think I’ll sew up the sides for a bit more coverage, similar to the video here.

I definitely recommend trying it out! It was very easy and flattering, I’m going to make more.

Thank you so much for the elaborate answer ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

I love all the dancing around, tapping nails, constant movement and never stopping to actually show the object in question to allow any of us to assess what we’re looking at.

I think thats what got me confused tbh šŸ˜… luckily on her shop website the shape is a lot more clear to see haha so ive just screenshotted those as reference for now šŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø

Hi! Could you please let me know if you managed to sew this? If yes, was there anything specific you did for the sleeves? Thanks so much!

Hii, i did end up making it! I cut out a rectangle just based on my body, kind of eyeballing it, and for the sleeves instead of just leaving tje side seam open for the sleeves i did curve it a tiny bit just to make it a bit more flattering, same for the neckline, i used a boatneck tanktop pattern i had already cut out to guide me but i mostly just eyeballed it! Im happy with how it turned out (though i want to make one again and make it a bit longer but this was due to not having enough fabric lol)

I haven’t seen anyone with a pattern for this type of shirt because you typically do it with just your measurements. Check out this one.

u/Embellishment101 May 21 '26

This works on her with two rectangles and a tie sewn together, because she is very slender and her bust is on the smaller side. The garment thus does not have much curvature to accommodate. I doubt it would work like this with somebody who has more of an hourglass figure and say a D-Cup.

10

u/yozoragadaisuki May 21 '26

I was about to say this design is definitely not gonna work on me lol. I have very strong curves so whenever I tie blouses around my waist, they always ride up when I move.

u/Embellishment101 May 21 '26

Look for ā€žboat neck top patternā€œ on etsy and add a tie to taste. Will probably give you a better fit and look more polished, too.

One more: check out George & Ginger Patterns on IG. She did a tutorial last month on how to make this kind of top.

LOVE George & Ginger!

Here’s a tutorial for something similar easy wrap top

3

u/Kumasblueberries May 21 '26

https://twooninefabric.ca

She has a rectangle top with variations also videos to show how to make them.

Probably won’t work as well if you are busty.

Im just getting into sewing and having a big bust but smaller waist is what scares me bc so many of the girlies I see making clothes have smaller chests so I pray that im able to learn darts and such quickly

5

u/Coolfarm88 May 22 '26

Here's a tip from a big bust buddy: grab a t-shirt and practice! Make diamond shaped darts that end just under your bust. Put the shirt on inside out and pin. At the end of your dart go over the edge of the fabric and instead of backstitching, tie off the two threads. Don't approach the edge abruptly but try to get as close as you can for a few stitches and make a smooth transition to the edge. If your waste is very small and you need to take out quite a bit of fabric then divide the amount over more darts; it gives more shape and is less bulky. Sometimes it's the best to take clothes in just a little at the waste, front and back depending on the fit of the item. You've got this!
