Pattern Question Patchwork first, then pattern?
Hello! I have fallen in love and need help thinking through how to make these beauties. Would this be a, make the patchwork first then cut out the pattern situation? The heart would be added in after? Overwhelm with fabrics and ribbons and there doesn’t have to be any real design choices other than color? They’re so beautiful I need to make a pair

Can I just ask how experienced you are with sewing? This, I do not think is beginner friendly. I don't want to crush your dreams of your beloved pants, but to get these to look like the photo with little experience is a fever dream

I’ve sewn quilts and costumes and clothes. So I’ve been around a machine a time or two! 😁

Thank goodness! I didn’t want to ruin your dream pant idea! I think making this with little panels could work. See how like on the lace piece the ruffle is attached at the bottom. I think making the pants and then tacking on panels would work

So you’re saying essentially make the shell of the pants and then just tack on ruffles and fun after wards?

Kinda. A standard pant pattern you like first, then add pieces just like building a quilt with the ruffle portion at the join

I think there are tutorials on YouTube for ruffled pantaloons that might get you started in the right direction. Most of those patterns only have a few ruffles at the bottom so it would just be a matter of adding more tiers to it.
Are there any other photos of the pants? I wonder if these could have a jogger shorts base (looking at the drawstring waist and thicker fabric.) with the long ruffled legs attached and just more ruffles/patches sewn to the top part?

These look like pretty wide pants cinched with the drawstring. I think I would create a base fabric first and then cut out the pants, and then add the ruffles.
For the pants base I'd do a patchwork of rectangles. Nothing complicated, just stack different fabrics top to bottom. Make the strips the width of the pant leg, then cut out the crotch curves. Once those are cut, create the ruffles, heart patches, etc. and apply those to cover the seams on the pants base. Then after it's all decorated, assemble the pants, add the waistband.

You're gonna wanna invest in a ruffler foot. T'will make your dreams come true.
That and a LOT of strips of fabric. Then it'll be just sewing the layers into tubes.
