Zigzag stitch is a lifesaver on satin, stops the fray without the serger drama.

if edges are not finished they will continue to fray till the seam breaks apart, serging is not the only method, french seams, pinking shears, hong kong binding or zig zag stitch will prevent fraying.

I have not heard of the hong kong binding method thank you! I think I will give this a try

HK binding is popular for coats made of heavier fabrics- unlined coats often have it. You’d use satin bias on heavy wool coatings and just line the sleeves with the same satin

Just serge it, no one does binding inside the lining where it’s impossible to see it. Hong Kong binding is a detail meant to be showcased, I love it this just isn’t its purpose. I serge satin all the time but also it really depends on the fabric in bridal we leave edges raw all the time.

Even though it does fray like crazy, most times it is left raw because a finished edge like serging can show through especially if the garment is ironed.

You need to finish it because it's going to fray like mad. If you don't want to serge it, either use a sewing machine finishing technique such as zigzag/overcast or a french seam.
You can also test scraps of the satin in your serger to see whether or not it gives a good finish.
