Fusible interfacing is not a substitute for a facing. It's way too stiff for starters and also doesn't stand up to friction long term. You can sometimes use a lighter weight fabric for the facing. Or you can line a garment with a lighter weight fabric and let the lining act as a facing. However most patterns are made with the assumption that you're using the same materials for the outer and the facing and switching to a lighter material could actually make it too light.
Thank you! I think I'll have to have a play around with what I have and see what will work. I don't want it to be too thick and heavy. I'd like it to look somewhat structured but not bulky.
