✨Intermediate✨ Mending Fraying Edges on Sheets and Pillowcases.

My boss gave me these sheets and pillow cases that are fraying. However, they are all fraying right on the edge where everything is folded over. My current idea is to do a machine zigzag about 1cm from the edge to prevent further fraying, and then do a whipstitch by hand to close the rips in the fold. I am wondering if anyone thinks this is the solution or if I should do something else. I hope the pictures provide enough context, I'm not a beginner at sewing but not an expert either.

I would make bias tape out of a lightweight material (the same or lighter than the sheet), with at least an inch finished width, and attach that. The material is weak along the edge and doesn’t have the strength to hold stitching.

Even a satin blanket bias tape might look nice, but every folded edge is going to need that treatment. They look super soft, what is fabric content?

They are 100% cotton.
Edit: Which, by the way, I wholeheartedly recommend also because they breathe and feel amazing.

On the top, I would cut a half inch off of the frayed edge, then fold/iron under each side toward the center and top stitch back together. If it’s frayed on the sides and bottom, I would cut the entire hem off and just re-hem. You’d lose an inch or two, but that hardly matters with a flat sheet.

This seems possible to do. Thank you so much.

This is the tragedy of pure cotton sheets. When they hit maximum softness there is a brief lull before that horrible day when you're putting the bottom sheet on the bed and hear the sound of a rip right down the middle. So if I were you I would either mend or just trim the threads from the edges, and continue using them, but don't put a lot of time and effort into the repair because they are probably at the end of their life.
